Heff-

Thanks for the note on that.
I haven't bought a scope for the .458 yet, I feel the need to first thin a small pile of good glass that I'm not using.

I'll be chewing on this for a little while before I buy.

Cheers
Tinker

Funny to see my old post brought back from the dead. Yes I did get a scope for my RSM and settled on a Leupold VX-3 1.5-5x with warne QR rings (all made locally here in Portland). However, I missed my ELK this year with the rifle which is a whole different story. The Bottom line... If your going to hunt with a Big Bore PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When the time came to take the shot at 60 yards I thought about how much it was going to kick and about getting a nice scope cut .01 seconds before I fired and you guessed it pulled the shot! After I fired of course it barely kicked and I was kicking myself as I watched my Elk move off to the next county. Moral of the story what every scope, rifle setup you get do a ton of shooting with it before you take it to the field.

Agree, now that load development completed for my 500 Jeffery about a 6 months ago, I only shoot it offhand or kneeling. I've gotten so it comes up naturally and I don't think about the scope. I just bought a Remington XCR II in 375 H&H and even at 6 1/2 lbs the Remington is much gentler in the recoil dept. It's like shooting a 270 lol ... So lots of practice taking the rifle from a natural carry position to aiming and shooting rapidly and naturally. We shoot soda cans (shaken up of course!) at 25, 50 and 100 yards and water jugs at 25 yards rapid fire. Lots of fun and sure makes you feel a lot more comfortable with the rifle.

Regards,

Chuck
