Is there a reason why Hornady offers their dangerous game ammo in most calibers, but not the 505 Gibbs? Is it the odd-ball diameter? I like the Norma ammo, but now at about $25/shot, a cheaper option would be nice.

Probably based on expected demand, or lack of it. The Gibbs is not nearly as widespread as the 470, but that logic doesn't explain why they DO make 450NE, 450-400, etc. However, it doesn't appear that Steve Hornady's line of African loadings is complete as of yet. The 470 and 500NE are just being rolled out now, so who knows what's next. I will use every Hornady African loading I can, provided my rifles shoot them adequately enough for real hunting purposes. I want to support someone who brings us ammo at 1/3 the price of what the others have been gouging us for.

Maybe it's just a time lag. It would be a natural with CZ chambering rifles now.

my last visit there,I saw two CZ rifles in 505 Gibbs in the rack. I asked Steve what they were for, and the response was "Nunya". Hornady-speak for nunya business! They are non-committal about a time frame, but would admit to some interest in the booming (pun intended, I think) in the big bore market. They are supplying a lot of 404J and 450-400 ammunition to makers focused on the US market.

I've heard that the 505 Gibbs loosens your bones
when you shoot it with out any protection.

Like any big bore...you get what you pay for!!!! Hard to launch a 525gr bullet at 2,350 or so without the rifle reminding you of the fact. Just do group testing & sighting in with a Lead Sled...and you won't notice when launching one at old M'Bogo.

Give them time. They have already surprised a lot of us with their current offerings in some rather oddball cartridges -- or rather less-than-mainstream cartridges.

That is great news! Thanks for that!
I met Steve at the NRA show last year.
Nice guy.
His Pop was surely proud. thumb

Can the 577/500 NE 3-1/8" be far behind?
OK, forget that for now.
I'll just go ahead and start getting ready for the Hornady .505 Gibbs brass.
My next cartridge will be a .510 neck-up and improvement of the .505 Gibbs.
It will clean up the odd redundant 500A2 lying around.
It will be called the 50 Nunya.

Jim,
New idea for me too!
I am wondering if one should apply those over one's head to prevent cranial bone loosening?
Like a shootaway helmet liner? bewildered

BS is all I can say. No worse than any of the other 500's - 500 Jeffrey, 500 Nitro.

Get out and try it sometime.

If you want to put a box of rounds through my 577 T-Rex, going back to the 505 will be an enjoyable experience!

One day, not a problem !!!

The only gun that I handed back (after 2 rounds) was the 505/530 Woodleigh built
on the 505 Case and loaded to the absolute Max.

Most of the others I can handle.

Old dogs, new tricks.

With respect to the Knutty Cannuck, we should strongly discourage any alternatiuve uses of said product and encourage only proper use to avoid any gene pool anomolies (be they human, animal or plant) caused by the escape of his seed......

Every time I read on here these sort of threads I think of how some in the USA knock your NRA of America.

You really do not know how lucky you are to actually have ALL these ammunition manufacturers reviving calibres that in the UK died forty years ago with the demise of Eley-Kynoch.
