Barnes used a 10 twist for the 500gr TSX Lott and 14 for the 458 WM.I called their tech. department and was told this is because of the saami regulations. The Ruger Lott comes with the same barrel lenght as that used in the Barnes tests but has a 14 twist instead of 10.I asked if the reason they used the 10 was because they might have found it to be more accurate and they said no.Do any barrel makers offer 458 barrels with a 10 twist?

Exactly.Ten twists are not listed or does a manufacturer say that they will make a single one for an individual on special order.

shootaway- Give Dan at Lilja Rifle Barrels a call. He might have a mandral with a 458 button he could make a special twist barrel for you. Just think- Dan and Dennis are in the same town. You might make a trip and visit both guys when you pick up your Lott and then a new barrel if that works out for you. It would be worth a phone call.

Why do you feel that a 10 twist is needed?

Thanks everyone! jwp475,just want to know if one is available.I wouldn't mind trying one and comparing it with the 14 twist sometime in the future. What I don't understand is the Barnes reply on the 10 twist.I wonder if it is more accurate with the long 500gr TSX bullets compared to the 14 twist.

monolithic bullets such as barnes tend to be looooong and need a faster twist to stabilize on game (not on paper), so the 1-10 is recommended
