I had a barrel band installed on my CZ thanks to AHR so now I want to remove the swivel stud in the forend of the stock. What are my options for filling the whole to make it flush? I took the swivel stud down to Home Depot to see if I could find a screw that would work - didn't have a short and fat enough screw. Now I need a plan B. Get A Browning Cat. And order a set of screws

Al, It may not be the way you would want to go, but I'll offer this option. When I relocated the front sling stud on my CZ to the end of the forearm, I filled the hole with acra-glass dyed black. It looks fine to my eye.

That's probably how I would do it. That is to say, that's probably how I would have the gunsmith do it. ------------------------------- Some Pictures from Namibia Some Pictures from Zimbabwe An Elephant Story

FWIW, when I went through this very exercise and I had a jewler engrave my intials on a thin, polished brass plate that was elongated and about 5/8 in long. I then had my wood working buddy inlet it over the hole left by the swivel. Looks great. If you plan to sell/trade it sometime in the future, I would have the jeweler engrave some cool pattern. This is what a friend did with his CZ stock.

OZ, that's what I'd like to do, but my wood working skills are . . . well, sub-par. ____________________________ If you died tomorrow, what would you have done today ... 2018 Zimbabwe - Tuskless w/ Nengasha Safaris 2011 Mozambique - Buffalo w/ Mashambanzou Safaris

As you can see, there is plenty of room just to cut it off at the Swivel hole and just sand it back. Shouldn't be to hard?

OZ, only problem is I don't own a saw. Did you have the forend re-checkered after the ebony was installed? ____________________________ If you died tomorrow, what would you have done today ... 2018 Zimbabwe - Tuskless w/ Nengasha Safaris 2011 Mozambique - Buffalo w/ Mashambanzou Safaris

On a .458 that I've since sold, I simply drilled the outer portion of the hole (about 1/4" deep) to 3/8" dia., cut an appropriate length off the bottom of a Hornady .375 bullet with a Dremel, polished it up real nice, and tapped it into place, just flush. It looked pretty good.

I have either filled them with black epoxy or a gloss-blued flathead screw of pleasingly rounded and smooth-polished contour, epoxied into the hole as a filler. Tumbleweed has given me the idea to cut off a case head and inlay the proper headstamp to go with the rifle.

I like the 375 cartridge idea. ____________________________ If you died tomorrow, what would you have done today ... 2018 Zimbabwe - Tuskless w/ Nengasha Safaris 2011 Mozambique - Buffalo w/ Mashambanzou Safaris

Well, I found my quick fix solution. Walnut colored wood filler. Not a perfect match, but it works. I'll put some sealant on it and it should work for all hunting sake. Should I decide to add an ebony tip later down the road (which I probably will), I can saw off the tip below my makeshift fix. Thanks for the great ideas though guys! ____________________________ If you died tomorrow, what would you have done today ... 2018 Zimbabwe - Tuskless w/ Nengasha Safaris 2011 Mozambique - Buffalo w/ Mashambanzou Safaris

Hog Killer, I like that solution, it's attractive, but I must confess, I've never had a problem with a sling swivel stud on the forend and a barrel band. Maybe I just haven't been bit yet.
