I haven't used the Imagur Website yet, so excuse me if the photo of my rifle does not come through with this post.....I may have to go back to the drawing board. This is an H&H 8 Bore Double that was built in 1884 for an Indian "Nawab"' (a Muslim Potentate). It has 24" barrels, a 13.5" LOP, and weighs 17.5 pounds. Obviously, it is a Jones Underlever. I bought the rifle from the James Julia Auctions nearly a year ago, and have been collecting the pictured reloading equipment ever since. I have finally managed to reload 5 rounds, which you see pictured under the barrels. The bullets used are spherical lead balls having a diameter of 0.850" and weighing roughly 935 grains. My starting load is 70 grains of Blue Dot smokeless powder, which I believe will result in both moderate muzzle velocities and manageable recoil. Cheers. Chip. https://imgur.com/E3hN0JV | ||

Nice!!! I (and I'm sure many others!) would love to hear all of the details; rifled? twist? any known history with the Nawab? How's it shoot? Any info from H&H or the ledger? and on and on. And more pictures of course! Also, I'd suggest getting ahold of Cal Pappas and see if he's got any copies of his bore rifle book left. Lots of good load info and tips there. I have owned this rifle for almost a year.It was an auction item at James Julia's fall auction last year. I consulted with Cal Pappas be before I bid on it, as there was more than one 8 Bore up for auction in that session. I own all of Cal's books, including "The British Bore Rifle". Cal has helped me with various aspects of reloading for this rifle. I first had to cast the chambers and the first one inch of the barrels. The castings had to be measured and sent off to Rocky Mountain Cartridge Co. of Worland, Wyoming in order to have 30 pieces of custom brass made. Once the brass was made, a piece of it had to be sent to Dave Davidson of CH4D in order to have a set of custom dies made. Once the appropriate bullet diameter was determined, moulds were ordered from Jeff Tanner of Billericay, England. Finally, all of the vintage reloading tools, (primer/decapper, rammer, snap caps, bullet sizer, chamber brush, barrel brush, jag, rods, powder measures,etc.), were made by John Millar of Danville, Washington. It is a new realm of stuff for me, but very interesting. The oak and leather case that came with the rifle appears to be original. It is in line for a refurbishment to be performed by Kade Gile of Huey Cases. Enjoy. Cheers. Chip. | |||

Chip: Nice to see how things have progressed for you. Post this also in the double rifles section. I'm glad I saw this as I rarely look to this section. In my 8 Locke I shoot 85 grains of Blue Dot for a fun load and 100 grains for a bit more horsepower; both with round balls. My 8 is bored to .875" so a ball is 1000 grains (true 7-bore). That's great Chip. It sounds like you've got ALL of the bases covered! Kade Giles has redone a few cases for me and they are top notch for sure. RMC brass is the gold standard, especially when made to your individual chamber. I've got two of John Millar's molds for my eight and they are truly works of art. And of course Cal is the guru. You are definitely being through with this fine rifle. Now come on up to AK the first Saturday in May to our double rifle shoot! CHIPB Lovely Rifle! I just picked up a W W Greener Jones underlever self acting striker 12 bore earlier this year, I would greatly appreciate if you could forward the contacts of all your sources for loading tools and components, I have nothing and will soon start to collect them with the goal of shooting it.
