Have a pre-64 featherweight action and a nice piiece of english walnut-thinking of a 280 rem,yeah I know it is not a big bore.Here is where the dliema is,Picked up a #1 that has beautiful wood,it would make a dandy 500 3" what to do????? eek2

The decision isn't should you use this wood on that gun... it's which gun you should build first.

go with the 280 first....

and let the ruger start life, with wood and dreaming for it...

That Number 1 will be awfully light for a .500, although one of our forum Member has such a beast.

The .280 is a fine caliber, but why not a .30-06, which, as we all know is one of God's Chosen Cartridges (along with the .338WinMag, and .375H&H Big Grin )?

The 500 would be alittle "snappy" Big Grin,but not bad! Already nave the wood and the action boxed up,going to ship it to the gunsmith tommorow.I agonized over the caliber for kept going back and forth between 06 and 280,figured out what to do,once the 280 is done I will just have to build an 06!!!!
