Kyler HamannThe REALLY big bore project = FRAUD
Well the 1180 BE project is finally a reality! I’ve been working on it for over 4 years now. The action work was done (from “scratch†of course) by my friends at West Coast Machine in Alhambra. The ever patient Don at Green Tool in Burlingame did the brass, bullets, reamer and dies for me. It seems to like bullets around 1400 to 1600 grains the best, but the testing continues. It’s an absolute beast to fire but at around 27 pounds and with a brake it’s “tolerable†for a few shots.
The loaded cartridge is flanked by a .375 H&H and a .460 Wby. for prospective.
I hope to have photos of the rifle up later this week.
Now what to use it on…

GarByI think I just saw something similar on "Future Weapons" on the Military Channel....this one had wheels, though. Kind of makes you wish gunbearers weren't a thing of the past doesn't it.
Probably get the range to yourself after one shot....so it's not all bad.
Of course the next question is inevitable....does it come in a double?

N'gagiI saw the gun when it was still in white metal. I took one look at the thing, and said FORGET IT! I did manage to talk my friend jason into taking a shot (One is enough for most people)
The nice thing about it is, you could probably work up a nice shotshell load for it too, and use it on Geese.
Here is Jason after the shot:

Are you planning on shooting any game with it?
Would you mind posting some load data and ballistic figures if available?

Jim ManionGREAT BALLS OF FIRE!!!!!
Is that a "1 bore"?
I am almost afraid to ask what velocity you are getting with a 1600 grain projectile (somehow, the term "bullet" just does not seem to fit)?

BiggPathat is pretty crazy, but i have to ask..
how is that even legal in CA? destructive device permit?
CA regulates to < .600 except for a few certain calibers.
btw, im from Westminster (Orange Country), currently in San Diego

bigdoggy700Pictures of the rifle will be nice. We want information on it now!! What is the length of the cartridge? What is the diameter? What is the velocity with 1600 grain bullets? You can not post pictures like that without the information! That can cause us to develope serious brain damage thinking about the specifics. HELP US OUT
28 February 2007, 02:52
GrandpasezNot quite as big as 2bore.
How long is case, and what primer and powder
types are you using. What type of action?
If it is a .118 calber the bullet at 1600
gr is relatively light, is it hollowbase.Ed

Hog KillerIs the bullet machined from steel rod?
If so that could explain the "light weight" for cal.

28 February 2007, 05:18
CollinsI'll do it...
There's no way a 1.180" projectile (as shown) would only weigh only 1600 Gns. A 50 BMG weighs 700. Just using our friend math, EVEN if you used the same length, the bullet should weigh 4 times as much. Aluminum bullet? was this s'posed to be posted April 1st? I want to believe, but my light 50 weighs 10 lbs MORE than your AA gun.

Rodney H.{500Jeffery}If this beast is capable of launching the 1600grainer at 2000fps that would be around 14,197 #'s of energy {ouch}. I want one. R.
28 February 2007, 05:46
Rodney H.{500Jeffery}Not a 100% on this but I believe without any research on the matter that blackpowder only firearms and cartridges may be exempt from NFA regulations as far as concerning bore size in defining a DD {destructive device} the states. So if this one is blackpowder I am interested in the obvious: charge wieght, barrel length, and especially bullet design. Also please post a pic of the artillery. R.

Pic's please...
50 BMG... 750 Gn 2921 FPS, 14K of energy. That 1.18" boolit should weigh about 4000 gns (if it's brass, or bronze) waiting...

GrandpasezOur 2bore with lightest brass slug i in pic
is 3500gr. It is 1.225" bore, case 5" long.
If they are using light metal or hollow base
slug that's the way to make it shootable
until they get their sea legs so to speak.
When 2bore gets done(probabably as part of
falling block project) we will use hollowbased
lighter slugs to start also.Or 50cal lead
balls for a big shot load. They have a nice case fore those liking necked cases,Ed
