My father and I went to the gun show today for me to "clean out some junk" and I sold every gun that I carried in and broke even on my sales, pocketing $1105. clap

The only problem was there was this "NIB" Ruger Magnum in my beloved .416 Rigby caliber with some of the prettiest grained walnut that I have seen in a while on any rifle and it was priced right---$1500, from an individual---so NO sales tax (9.75% sales tax sucks! Roll Eyes) or background check charges ($10) either. Well, after walking the entire Expo Center, and REALLY trying to resist, I went back for the Rigby. It wasn't planned at all, but I bit the hook and brought it home. animal

So now I own both a CZ550 Safari Mag. in .416 Rigby (which I have removed the sights, installed a 4.5-14x50mm Vari-X III, bedded in a McMillian, and loaded with 325 gr. Barnes X to 2850fps which is POTENT elk medicine even at extended ranges), AND a beautiful new Ruger Safari Magnum in the same caliber! lol

Next time you won't walk the entire Expo center before deciding. If I had been there it would have been sold before you got back.

Excellent for you!!!

my rsm is, without a doubt, the best american factory rifle I have ever seen, and ranks up there with some of the better custom ones.

these rifles, dual quarter ribs (there's one UNDER the barrel too), 3 pos safety, good weight, good sights, nice functional stock layout, and 3+1 in 416 rigby...

what a great gun...

and mine, in particular, while called circassian, certainly looks like a high grade of french walnut.. think india ink of medium toast.

just awesome rifles

NO WAY!!! The CZ is going to EVOLVE. Cool The bluing itself is crap......on the last elk hunt I went on, it was the ONLY rifle out of 5 that rusted the day after the snow storm---and before you think it, the other four fellas were ASKING TO BORROW my silicon gun rag after I finished wiping off the Rigby. Roll Eyes Even my VZ-24 that I built in .35 Whelen (which my dad borrowed for his elk), stood up much better with its hot bluing! Maybe that Czech bluing ain't up to snuff?!? bewildered

I have two possibilities for the CZ:

One......I was thinking of slowly grinding off the rise and smoothing where the dovetail is for the rear sight, then "possibly" having a Holland Quick Discharge muzzle brake installed (I shoot a lot prone off of a Harris Bipod with the CZ Rigby and it's rather dramatic---SERIOUSLY!!!---Practice for elk country. Wink ), and then having the thing Robar'd or the like for all weather performance. thumb

OR, Two......Kirby Allen (Fiftydriver), of the Long Range Hunting Forum is working on an "Allen Mag" wildcat version of the .408 CheyTac (shortened and improved .505 Gibbs) that is necked down to .338. In addition to the above mods in the first option, I have seriously considered letting him turn my CZ into a REAL long range, but portable rig. It's not that the Rigby caliber is deliquent when it comes to LR work: with my modern load of 110 grains of RL-22, it shoots as flat as a .300 Win Mag with 200 grainers, but at the same time carries the same energy at 600 yards as the .30-06 does at the muzzle!!! thumb

I may go ahead and post this in a separate too, but does anyone know for a fact that the CZ550 Safari bolt for the .416 and the .505 Gibbs are the same diameter?!?!? For Kirby to do his magic, the bolt head on the CZ would have to be opened up slightly. bewildered

BTW, Frank, I wasn't trying to brag, I was just a bit excited after my find. Wink Oh yeah, one more thing; Wink, I'm glad you live in FRANCE!!! animal

Yep, same bolt in the .505 Gibbs as in the .375 H&H by CZ.

Congrats on the Ruger. thumb

Well you are a better man than me 'cuz I'd be bragging away.
I am glad you found such a sweet one at that show.

But didn't your family ever teach you not to wander about in such terrible places. Don't you know there are "loonies", and "nuts" and others there with the first name gun?

Enjoy,
Frank

Yep, and since my dad started me off shooting around the age of six, he told me gun shows were a good place to meet other "loonies" just like me!!! lol
