.416 Remington Mag. ??? Login/Join

I bought a new Blaser R93 in .416 Rem.Mag. at the Dallas show, & just learned this morning from Huntington's in Calif. that nobody is currently making brass for this caliber - Remington has discontinued it (that sounds like them in keeping with their trend of marketing more junk & less quality). Anyone have any ideas where I might get brass for this caliber ? I have contacted Alex Roy at EuroOptics where I purchased the rifle, & he's working on the problem on his end; he told me that he would give a refund on the rifle if I wanted, but I'd really like to keep it if I can find some brass. By the way, I don't think I've ever dealt with a man (Alex) as ethical as he's been in dealing with me on this rifle. I had talked to another company while in Dallas about this same gun, & before Alax would sell me the gun, he wanted to make sure he wasn't screwing his competitor just to sell a rifle. A rare breed in this day & time - I highly recommend EuroOptics & Alex.

Frank,

Checked this site and they list it by Quality, but not sure if it's in stock. Might call them if you haven't already. I'll keep my ear to the ground for you.

Good luck with the search.

Frank:

I just sold my last 60 rounds to a fellow in California. Check out the classifieds. I thought there was some in there. One final option. I have a bunch of 8MM Mag brass that you could neck up.

I bought my S2 from Alex Roy and I couldn't be happier. He is a good guy and he gave me a good deal and was very prompt with the shipment. I was turning over the idea of buying another S2 in 9.3X74R and Alex would be the guy I would go to.

Another possibility. Doesn't show their stock, don't know anything about them, but worth a call.

I'll keep looking,

Just checked with my supplier, and none to be had. I did grab the last 3 box's of Remington Ammo loaded with the Swith 400 gr A-Frame they had in stock. Seems to be plenty of Federal and Winchester Ammo available. Winchester is listing the new Model 70 in .416 Rem. Mag. so I suspect Ammo will be available for quite some time.

416 rem is a seasonal run for Remington, not sure when their next production date. Two options: 1) buy factory and reuse the brass. 2) neck up 8mm rem mag to 416 remington.

Did a little checking. Rem. has 1 load listed for their cartridge, but no rifles. Win. has 2 loads for it. Fed. has 5 loadings. Norma has it in thier PH line. Go figure. With "Big Green", who knows?

This 416 brass issue has been going on for quite a few years. It will be unavailable for some time, then Rem stamps a batch and everyone has it in stock, then the stock dries-up and everyone is scrambling for a while.

With Hornaday selling belted-mag basic brass($35/50qty.) is there any reason, other than lack of headstamp, to not use this to make 416RM?

midway had Remington 416 Rem Mag brass in stock last week. Remington brass is good stuff and cheap! Their computer system's down right now, but you might want to give a call.

Checked the listings on www.gunbroker.com just a few days ago and seen a box of 100 nickel plated for sale as well as another box of unplated. Put a reminder on Midway's site and they will email you when they get another batch...they are currently out of it. If you need some brass really quick, I'd buy some Hornady belted basic brass and make it yourself.

I checked Midway's site earlier, when Frank first posted, and to my surprise, the 416 Rem. wasn't even listed under brass. Shocker for sure.

I did have the same idea as JBrown about the Hornady basic belted.

I checked Midway and they list the brass with this note: "Unavailable - Seasonal Run".

Why not just use Hornaday belted mag basic brass until the Rem stuff is available again???????

Frank,

I have some Remington nickel plated some place, I think 50 or 100 cases, if you need it I can send it to you if you will replace it when stocks become available.

Telly: If you could find 25 rounds, I could use it. I will definitely replace it when it becomes available, but I don't know when that would be. If you are not using it currently, I'd like 20-25 cases. Let me know, thanks, FRANK

Frank,

In my infinite wisdom I had Douglas put a .416RM barrel on my Montana action instead of the .404 I'd first planned because I figured that brass and bullets would be easier to find. hilbily

I don't know if you've heard but you can make perfectly usable Rem Mag brass out of Hornady Basic Belted brass. sofa

I do have about 30 pieces of Remington brass you can borrow if you've got a trip planned that involves going someplace where a headstamp is required.

Have you shot the Horneber 416 Rem Mag brass?

If so, how does it compare to the Remington flavor?

Edited for spelling

The cheerful little fellow at Huntington's advised that they sold out last week. He said that Remington has quit making .416 brass and now only makes it as a special run with a requirement for at least 100,000 pieces. Frowner

Frank, I have about 15 boxes of 4316 Remington ammo, and would sell 100-200 rounds at a great price. Then you'd have fire-formed empties.

PS: Don't get aggressive with loading for the 416 Remington in a Blaser R93...they don't like it.

Biebs: Do you have any load data for the R93 Blaser in .416 RemMag ? Are the hotter loads inaccurate or just too tough on the rifle ? Thanks for your help ...... I haven't shot the rifle yet ..... just getting geared up. I'll probably take it to Zim this year for buffalo & hippo ....... thanks, FRANK

Frank, I don't load for the 416...factory ammo works fine. I was told that Blaser recommends against A-square ammo in 416 because it's loaded aggressively. A friend also had issues when reloading 416...when full-length re-sizing, it was difficult to get the die all the way to the base of the case, until he modified the case holder.

If you PM me your email address, I'll put you in touch with a few very experienced folks who have done a lot of reloading for their R93 Blasers.

@Biebs
I have a R93 in .416 Remington Magnum and till today I did not have any kind of problems while loading my cartridges.

I'm happy with the accuracy of the load. Please refer to the link below:

I checked with Reimar Johannsen.

They have some:
Remington
Bell
Horneber

in stock.

PS Nice group, Collani.

They have more faith in the cartridge than Remington, it seems.

I just bought 250 pieces of Bell brass in 416 Remington Mag.

Where do you write to get a "bunter" made. That impresses the caliber designation in the head of a case.

I can make 416 Rem Mag brass out of Hornady basic belted cases.

There is still some 416 Rem Mag and 404 Jeffery Bell brass at buffalo arms.

I wrote to Hornady today about this business opportunity.

I asked Huntington's to import 416 Rem Mag brass from Dieter Horneber in Germany.

I let Jamisons know about the same business opportunity

Thanks for the lead on the 470 Mbogo site. Dave informed me about how hard it is to work with a bunter - whew!!

Those "people" at Remington! A lot of guides and PHs make their living with 416 Rem Mag rifles.

I will check Arms and Ammo. Thanks
