On my LH M-70 .375 I notice there is only one rear open sight base screw. The Ashley GR I bought to replace the worthless Win sight has two set screw holes.

Is this normal ? Im just going to have a gunnie drill another hole, eventually. Yeah there are a lot of "little inconsistancys with the rifle, like the excess freebore and the barrel width problem for the rear scope base, "corrected by a custom cut rear base by Warne".

But the rifle is a shooter and Im overall happy with it.................J

I got my replacement rifle back from Winchester (Model 70 Classic Safari Express, LH, 375 H&H caliber). I didn't take delivery from the dealer. The rifle had a lot of defects that a brand new rifle shouldn't have. I hope Customer Service can do a better job getting me a decent $900 rifle than the idiots in manufacturing have done. I don't want another rifle from their factory.

FWIW, 3.5 years later. all those problems were corrected.

I bought a .375 H&H LH Safari Classic in December of '05. I had a trigger job done and took it to the range. Put over 800 rounds through it, took it to Africa and shot some game, including a buff. I had a flawless experience with the rifle. At about 1000 rounds, I had the third round in the mag well jump out on the ground a couple of times. Installing a new Wolff spring cured that. It has been a great rifle, working on over 1100 rounds now. Guess I got lucky, because Winchester went down a few months after I bought it. I wouldn't sell it. Going back to Africa in '09 for buff again and expect to be carrying my favorite rifle. Certainly is not my most expensive rifle, but it's the one I take the the range most often. Still shoots 1 MOA.
