| dear roger, this site says 94gr of 88vvn165 or 90.orel22 will both give you plus 3400 fps. with a 180gr barnes bullet.I do not know about the pressure involved. |

| I have a SAKO 75. I used the 180 gr Partition Golds (CT) with 215BR caps and 109gr of AA8700. I get 3320 fps and the best group so far (after considerable case preping) has been .942" at 300 yds! Great rifle. Also It shoots the 150gr Hornie SST's at 3600 fps (reloder 22) ![[Big Grin]](images/icons/grin.gif) and 1.2" at 300 yds. |

| I seem to be the exception. On occasion, I get three shots under an inch. Rem 700 LSS, not tweaked in any way. The accuracy has degenerated substantially over 300 shots though. I used to get about an inch with factory Nosler partitions, now it's over 2".
Still looking for that magic load,

| Gentlemen,
I was amazed at the relatively high velocity we were getting out of our factory Remington 700 in this caliber.
As a general rule, I keep increasing the powder charge until I coem across ANY sign of high pressure - generally, this is a slight stiffning in the bolt lift. Our maximum loads shown are the ones before this happen.
You might also like to look at our data for the 30/404, which is as close to the 300 RUM as one can get. I used this rifle with 180 grain bullets to hunt in South Africa last year, with different bullets. I used the same pwoder and charge, getting velocities from around 3425 to 3480 fps.
I picked this load for its accuracy, as we were getting higher velocities with 180 grain bullets without any signs of pressure. |
