Am in the market for a new stock for my 550 in 416 Rigby as I recently found out that my McMillan synthetic won't fit ( cz 602). Any thoughts on aftermarket stocks? I know that McMillan and MPI make stocks for the 550 but at over $600 Cdn am trying to keep the cost down. I keep hearing stories of the stock splitting but so far 38 fairly stout loads haven't done it yet. The reason I am looking for a new stock is that I have Warne high QD rings on it so as to allow the bolt to open but when I shoot it I cannot get a good cheek weld on it and one of these days it's going to really hurt the old jawbone. I recently saw the richards-stocks.com website and they look like fairly nice wood for an attractive price, anyone have any experiences with these stocks? Any reccomendations will be greatly appreciated.......Thank you.....Yukon257

Yukon257, That McMillan stock for a 602 will fit the 550 with minor modifications if it is the Magnum/Long action variety with the drop box as with the old 375 H&H BRNO. The trigger well can be reworked to fit the bulkier new CZ 550 set trigger. This is the primary difference between the two.
If that doesn't work, the laminates will do, but will take a lot of work. Put crossbolts in everywhere you can, whether walnut or laminate, or synthetic.
Nickudu has a line on a synthetic from RSA. They look a lot like a Bell&Carlson.

I use low Warne QD Rings on my CZ550 500A2. I ground down the bolt handle on a drill press using a 2 inch grinding wheel (rig up a fixture to hold the bolt vertically and rotate the bolt handle into the wheel, to produce a pleasing curvature). Continue this process untill the bolt handle will clear the scope. There is plenty of metal to do this and it takes just a few minutes. I then polished up the bolt handle and rust blued it. It looks great and the gun doesn't bite as the scope is mounted as low as possible. Put a second crossbolt in your CZ stock and steel-bed it.!-Rob
