RIPOl Bull,
Are you Jeff Cooper's son?
Is that rifle called "Baby?"
Very nice.
I thought it might be a highly reworked BRNO ZKK 602, but the scope bases and thumb cut are another customization or it is not a 602???
Please tell more about this 460 G&A rifle.
Thanks.

470 MbogoThat sure is a nice piece of wood on your Dad's rifle. I really like the full forend on the stock along with the full butt end. It looks like it take the full size large recoil pad. It just looks like a big bore with the full forend. Have you had a chance to shoot the 460 GA? I would think the stock design on this rifle would handle recoil very well. Thanks to Saeed for putting up the pictures. That's one very nice rifle.
Take good care,
Dave

Ol BullFirst, thanks again Saeed.
RIP, it was built on a VZ24 that was double square bridged and heat treated. It has a three position safety, single set trigger and a four shot box. Barrel is a Kreiger with another recoil lug under the rear sight. Sights are from NECG. That was its first trip to the range. With 88gr of RL15 and a 500 Hornady we got 2390 fps and one biga$$ hole. I must say thou at 9 1/2lbs its a handfull.
The bottom pic is his 360 Imperial.
Both rifles were built by Dennis Erhardt and Jerome Glemm did the engraving.

470 MbogoCorrect me if I'm wrong but isn't the Imperial cartridge line the ones developed by a Canadian fellow. I used to see him at the odd gun show if correct. His name escapes me at the moment but I'm sure around 2:00 am I will wake up with it.
Take good care,

Correctomondo... when was that sometime in the mid 80's?
10 December 2007, 12:08
Ol BullMbogo, you are right about him being from canada but i don't know his name. They are all great rounds and not to hard to make brass for. I use Norma 404 Jeffrey for all three of them. For my 350 G&H Improved i use 340 weatherby brass.

gumboot458Ol Bull ;; how much real difference is there between the 35 G&H Magnum and the 358 Shooting Times Alaskan ??????
.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Ol Bullgumboot458, i think the STA is about 50 fps faster than my G&H Imp. Not enough for me to give up my G&H. It's an ol 350 Rigby that Dennis rechambered. It has xxx wood and a quarter rib with one standing. Very classic if i do say so myself.

Ol Bullgumboot458, thank you. They were all a long time coming and we are very happy with them. I just took some more quick pics of them. I'll send them to Saeed and see if he'll post them.

Bent FossdalOl Bull,
Very very good looking rifle! What a piece of wood!
But I am confused about the name of the cartridge - what is a .450 G&A, as I can see the rifle is engraved? The .460 G&A was made by Tom Siatos in the '70's, made on the full length .404 Jeffery necked to .458 with the shoulder mooved foreward. He also made a 2,5" version.
What is tha .450 G&A?
Thanks!

The 450 G&A is the 2.5" version of the 460 G&A.
11 December 2007, 23:23
mr rigbyThe 450 G&A is a shortened 460 G&A to .458 Win Mag lenght, to fit in standard receiver but it gives 200 fps more than a .458 win Mag.
Gorgeus rifle Old Bull, that a was super rifle .
12 December 2007, 00:03
jeffeossonever had heard of that...
very much like the 458AR, however, the larger is larger in several critical areas...
and the AR is generally 300FPS faster.
12 December 2007, 00:54
MTMGuys, the mystery Canadian is Aubry White. Great guy.
12 December 2007, 09:43
kayakerGreat rifle!
Someone asked if that was Cooper's 'Baby'. Baby was a .460G&A and was built on a CZ ZKK 602.
Sorry if tis had been answered already...
I like the sound of the 2.5" .450...like the .458AE or Vincent short.
12 December 2007, 10:19
Ol Bullnew_guy has it right. Norma 404J brass shortened to 2.5" and blow out to .458
As i said the first loads got 2390fps with no signs of pressure. Curiosity wants to see how fast it will push them but why? Besides, our shoulders say enough!

Bent FossdalOK, my books says it was called .460 G&A Short, but you have the gun to proove them wrong! If that is not the prefect round for a M98, I don't know what is.

jeffeossowhen I designed them, 404 brass was 2 bucks each, and rum brass was 54cents .... AR vs GA
Excellent rounds, and i bet you could use rum brass, in a big press, and well lubed cases, to make it.
WOW, you used 88gr of rl15? I haven't had good luck with rl15 in these, but h335 has certainly worked well in the ARs

nordrsetaI mean no offense by calling such a burly big bore dangerous game rifle pretty but by God that is one beautiful buffalo thumper! IIRC Jeff's Baby is much plainer so far as the wood goes. Whether you can shoot yours as well as his is a topic for another day. Wow!
15 December 2007, 09:13
Ol Bullnordrseta, none taken

Thanks
