I farmed out the parts for the 500 Mbogo to Kevin Jenkins down Nashville way towards the end of October 2007, utilizing a CZ 550 Magnum action from a .416 Rigby.

Stuart Satterlee can go ahead and finish my action on his good time, and I will have it barreled as a 300 Lapua Magnum, a CIP standard cartridge.

Satterlee Stainless Magnum Mauser action serial number SSMM001 might become a 500 Mbogo someday, but not before it becomes a .300 Lapua Mag.

I waited the six months to start a .395 Tatanka with SSMM001 then moved on. I am now one month shy of a year since I ordered the action in mid December 2006 and counting. I do believe progress is being made.

About that .300 Hulk for attention:

It is a .308/.338 Lapua Mag. wildcat that set the new world record for a 5-shot 1000-yard group on 7/7/07, the day the first ever .395 Tatanka (.40-07) rifle was completed. Wink

Tom Sarver is the new record holder with his wildcat ".300 Hulk": 1.403" for 5 shot group at 1000-yards.

I expect the 500 Mbogo will be able to approach that on a Satterlee action, but I am going to have to try it with a CZ first. Wink

Jeffe,
Not guilty!
Never fear there will always be plenty of .510 caliber projectiles in the pipeline, unlike some of the exotic stuff. And thanks. thumb

Jeffe is just feigning a projectile shortage so he can get me to make some of those pressure relief spiral grooved Americium Solids he's been wanting! Wink

O.K., don't forget that 65Kpsi pop-off valve running through the center of the bullet. Wink

I have a new schtick, inspired by the 300 Hulk of Tom Sarver. He owns the Thunder Valley Rifle Club near Plainfield, Ohio, less that 400 miles from home.

A 17-pound 500 Mbogo will one day compete in the "Light Gun Class" at 1000 yards.

It will be patterned after the Tom Sarver rifle used for his 300 Hulk: 30" barrel, muzzle brake, McMillan stock, 42X scope, 2-ounce trigger.

Above pics of Tom Sarver with 300 Hulk gun and ammo are gleanings from the internet. Originally posted by a buddy of Tom's. Top secret specs on the 300 Hulk, but I have gleaned a charge of 85.0 grains of H1000 powder with a 240-grain Sierra MatchKing. Stated velocities somewhere in the 2800 to 3000 fps bracket.

Somebody must have big hands to make that .308/.338 Lapua Mag. look so small.

Speculation: Original .338 Lapua Mag. brass made by Lapua, with 40-degree shoulder at original location and no other changes?

Looks like it still has a lot of taper, and I do not think it is shortened, just foreshortened by the camera angle. Just guessing.

I could be all wrong on that and it is a shortened version of the .338 Lapua or it is actually a 6mmPPC being palmed to fake us out. Wink

Back to big bores: A 500 Mbogo would not look so tiny, and would be much more satisfying to produce small groups with at 1000 yards. BOOM
