Ok, I'm headed to Cooley with the DRSS for a weekend hunt, and instead of taking 16 lbs of ammo for the .500 NE and .577 NE, I was going to ship the bullet, in hard plastic ammo carriers, in a box with peanut and newspaper padding, taped well, but when I took it to the UPS store, they said you can't send ammunition. Sooooo.... Is there a way (carrier) I can send ammo from one private citizen to another (Rusty)? Please advise. 577NitroExpress Double Rifle Shooters Society Francotte .470 Nitro Express If stupidity hurt, a lot of people would be walking around screaming...

When the ORM-D stickers and the words Small Arms Ammunition are on two sides of the box, and packaging is correct, MTM or orginal cardboard... why wouldn't they? Some facilities might not, but most would I do believe. That's how we sent many pounds of ammunition out for a Pdog hunt. Ah, just noticed you said UPS store... not the same as the UPS themselves... like a mailboxs etc was. LAstly, you can call UPS for a pickup, and tell them what you want to do... or not. Exactly. UPS (propper) will take it and probably charge you a haz-mat fee of $20... (that's about what they charge for powder) But you can't do it at one of those coffee shop, packing, etc UPS places, you'll have to go to a location staffed with UPS personnel.

I do not think that a hazmat fee is charged on loaded ammo. They only charge it on powder and primers. Your best bet is to call UPS and schedule a one time pick up. Dave

I that is correct, there's no hazmat fee on loaded ammo. The USPS is the same, but some employes aren't aware of the rules. Sigh. DRSS member Constant change is here to stay.

can't ship ammo, PERIOD usps. UPS can take the shipment, ask the manager, but but but, you are NOT required to say ammo is in the box, and the reason they wouldn't take it (ups store has different rules than UPS drop offs) is that there is a minimum wage, unbonded person taking that box, vs a union memeber (seriously) take it back to UPS, write ORM-D on it, and tell the manager to ship it. George is correct. You CANNOT, without a shadow of doubt, ship ammunition by the USPS. You CANNOT ship ammo from a sattelite store of the primary shipper. No UPS stores for UPS; no Kinkos for FedEx. UPS or FedEx will ship ammo with the ORM-D stickers attached. There is no extra charge for the sticker. It is just to inform them what it is. There is no haz-mat fee for ammunition.
