touchdown88Muzzle blast in B&M Rifles
Gentlemen,
Upon reading the thread about shortening a 458 to 21 inches, i began to wonder if the B&M cartridges with their short barrels have a higher than average muzzle blast? I've got a pre-64 featherweight collecting dust and am thinking about making it into a 416 B&M.

I have a 416 B&M-20 inch barrel- and it doesn't seem to have anymore muzzle blast than my 416 Rem Mag. I attribute this to our modern powders that let you tailor the loads.
The 416 B&M has become my "goto" rifle, even for deer and hogs.

capowardtouchdown,
I don't own a B&M cartridge chambered rifle but I have fired and saw being fired a 416 B&M w/20" barrel, two .458 B&Ms w/18" barrels, a 50 B&M w/18" barrel, and a 50 B&M SS w/16 1/4" barrel. Muzzle blast was not excessive with any of them at least no more than a couple of .375s and a 450 NE - just a quicker impluse due to using quicker burning powder.
I shot in open spaces with no overhead or side containment using ear protection when multiple individuals firing simultaneous but also with and without ear protection when I was the sole individual firing and also when watching from 10' and 15' distance to the side of other shooters.
Also when hunting I tend to perceive the muzzle blast as a background noise when focusing on the game animal.

BiebsI have a 500 MDM, and haven't noticed any undue muzzle blast. It's actually quite a nice rifle to shoot considering the power that it generates.

touchdown88Boomy and Biebs,
Thanks for the info. From watching the videos, the recoil doesn't seem too excessive nor does the muzzle blast seem to be bad. Now I need to get some funds stashed away from the wife and get my rifle sent back to SSK.

tanksHere is a video of me shooting a right handed 458 B&M. Please note that this was at an indoor range, so there is an echo.
