What sights do you recommend for the 500 Jeff?

On my 500's the rear sights have been custom made (meaning 1/4 ribs and NECG blades). The fronts have been NECG or Recnagel (spelling for the German firm may be wrong).

I would suggest a quarter rib with one standing rear sight. New England custom guns masterpeice front. Ivory bead.

i prefer square rear sight notches on bit bores, some prefer wide and shallow V

On my 500 Jeff. I have a peep site (made by Rusty Marlin here on AR) mounted on the striker/bolt, and a banded front sight.

Fast and easy.

Recknagel sights would be a good plan.

hmm, weird - i am having a hard time squaring the statement of his 500s and this, in relation to his "first" winmag, that he got this year

I have an NECG Masterpiece rear sight on my CZ Safari Classic. For a front sight I have the CZ Hi-Vis orange bead, but it's too small, just like the newsprint these days lol. I'm going to have one twice it's diameter put on.

I am better than shootaway with any sort of open sights,
but I prefer a square-notch-flat-top rear or a receiver peep,
combined with a big gold patridge front. I could line those up in my sleep.

Here is another sight I like on a 450 Dakota M98 Magnum.
It has a single, fixed, flat-top-U-notch leaf on an integral base,
and a large gold front bead.
Since the Mauser Banner licensee did it, I make do with it,
especially since I am better with any open sights than shootaway:

I like the reciever mounted aperture with a square topped front blade on the 404. Striker mounted aperture on the smaller bores.

RIP,the square top hides part of the target compared to a V.It is easier to identify or see a difficult target with a V.But,the square top works great for me,and I always have my gears on learning mood.

The rear sights on a big bore need to be tightened down more than we think.A screw driver does not provide enough torque to tighten them the way they should be.Rear sights whose screws can take ANY more tightening with a screwdriver may be responsible for flyers or large groups.What is best for tightening rear sights is a 1/4 inch socket driver.You may need one to tighten guard screws as well becuase screw drivers and big bores don't go together.

You seem to have more screws loose than anyone else here. Maybe you need to loctite them...

You know...so much of this depends on your age and eyes. Confidence with open irons for me is history. My own 500 Jeff has a 1.1-4 Zeiss in claw mouonts. When the scope comes off, a nice large arpeture peep is insantly available. The front is one of those bright red "glo worm "

And...I use slotted screws...You can ALWAYS find a slotted screw tool of some kind

Only slotted screws look nice on rifles.

I just close my eyes when I jerk the trigger. Problem solved. Doesn't matter what type of sights I have, or whether they are loose or tight.
