I am seriously thinking of getting a CZ550 in either 9.3x62 or .375H&H...Can anybody confirm if the .375H&H is available in the American style stock??? I am sure somebody posted that Kettners of Germany had some ordered..If it's not, is the Safari Magnum stock really that bad as far as managing recoil goes?

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Pete E,

There is a difference between CZ 550 American and CZ 550 Magnum (Lux,Standard, Safari)

I confirm you that CZ rifle 550 American with fixed magazine is chambered in 9.3X62.

For the .375 H&H you need to go with 550 Magnum model.

Regarding the recoil and CZ 550 Mag, I have one 550 Magnum in .458 Win Mag rechambered in
.458 Watts. This model is not the European model (only Standard or Lux model) but US model only in Safari grade (a litlle bit more expensive than EU models). With the Pachmayr Decelerator the recoil of my .458 Watts is no so big than other rubber buttplates. Ask to your dealer to know the availbily of this model. The 550 Safari grade is only for US market if you want it, your dealer need to do special order to CZ headquarters. But let me know smth if this reply is not clear for you.

Pete E,

I just bought a CZ 550 Magnum in 375 H&H. As BER007 stated this cartridge isn't chambered in the other models. I chose the Magnum (straight standard stock) and 375 H&H because it was *built* as a magnum rifle. The 9,3x62 calibre was only available in the ordinary models. I like my new rifle a lot but will do some modifications before using it to hunt with. The stock isn't as "straight" as the American model but has more of a drop but fits me well.

Just bought a 550 in 416 last summer, am sure that stock is same on 375.
The only problem that I have with the gun is that I put Warne high QD rings on it and I can nearly rest my chin on the stock when I shoot it. Not sure if medium rings would work but at $179 Cdn per set pretty hard to justify extra rings. Tried a buddy's Warne rings ( medium we think) and bolt would not come back due to the scope.
Other than that great gun!!!

Yukon257,

What scope do you have on it?? Just curious as I have had similar problems with other rifles......Have you tried a leather comb raiser??

Ray seems to be hunting. The 9.3x62 version they call the "Medium" action. Its the standard action, with three position safety and a metal plate for bedding added. This also has two crossbolts now. 9.3x62 and .300 win Mag are the largest ( normal - I dont want to discuss what might fit on this forum! Too many masochists out there! )chambering for this one. This means no unnecessary metal.

The Magnum action has one cross bolt, two position safety ( I would not make too much about this; only for posting ). Its fitting for the Rigby case, so everbody around will tell you anything less is smallbore. Anyway this is a heavy rifle.

I would think very hard about a sleek, long barreled 9.3. As I said, if Ray is absent, somebody has to do it ...
