Anyone here have any experience with this gun. Are they any more accurate than a Marlin lever gun?

My experience has been that the Marlins are more accurate. The short 77's, like the Hornet & .44, tend to be finicky. Some will shoot, some won't. A Ruger no. 3, now that's another story. Aut vincere aut mori

Speaking as someone with experience with the Ruger 77 in 44 Rem. Mag., yes it is very accurate. The 240 grain Hornady XTP bullet and 2400 powder shot to one inch at 100 yards, after the gun was free floated and action glassed. Used the rifle in deer population control with a permit that allowed shooting 24 hours a day (except Sunday), with spot light, over bait. Thanks for the info. My Marlin will shoot one inch groups on occasion if the barrel is cold but when it warms up I am lucky to get a 4" group. 240s shoot a pattern at 100 yards but holes will touch at 50 yards. The only thing that seems to work is Speer 270s and 300xtp. Would like to shoot 240s for the velocity and quick exspansion. Found The Ruger at a local shop and thought it might be better

With subsonic loads mine shoots about 1.5 at 100 yards when I get them going quicker they fly out a little Most accurate projectile has been the 250g Nosler Partition I love my m77 44mag I do plan on rebarrelling it, with a quicker twist. It is a great gun for my youngest boy to learn on, loud enough to know he has a centerfire without the big kick regards S&F

I had one of the bolt actions, and it was by far the most inaccurate rifle I ever owned. I spent a bunch of money trying to get it to shoot by having my gunsmith glass bed it, etc. I also tried several brands of ammo, different weights. None showed any potential. I finally traded it for a 77 MKII in 308 and have been happy with that one. I think it has to do with the bolt locking up mid way in the receiver, and the darned thing has no recoil lug, so I think the whole action springs. This set up is the same as their 22, which is probably OK there, but not for the 44. A style of rifle that would probably have made more sense in .44 Automag, .45 (Grizzly) Winchester Magnum or good old .401 Winchester SL.

I've spent some time with a 77/44 at an indoor range a few years back. It was reliable but it's hard to test accuracy at 25 yards shooting offhand. It had a better trigger than the average out of the box Marlin and its stock is more comfortable. We had one show up at the deer rifle sightin a year or two ago. Everyone in the family - Dad, Mom, teenage Son, and teenage Daughter - had no trouble shooting into a couple inches at 100 yards with factory 240s. They said it hammers deer when hunting up close in the woods and recoil was not a bother at all.

They must be selling to someone, but I'll never buy another. Everyone has a "I wish Ruger - or someone - would make - whatever" My wish list would include a small bolt action carbine like the 77/44 with the rotary magazine, chambered in 35 Remington. The design differences would include a recoil lug in the appropriate place, and front locking lugs. It seems like perhaps several cartridges would be candidates, using the same bolt face, such as the 7.62x39, the 6.5 Grendel, the 30 Remington, 35 Remington, 6.8 Remington, and probably others, and since Ruger is introducing so many cartridges, pick a new rimless one with the same head diameter. Any would be better than the 44 mag in a rifle, IMO.
