This weekend I shoot my 500A2 in a crono for the firs time. During break in of the barrel I thougt recoil was no problem but "laying" in the bech recoil was not so fun any more... I only shoot one of each loading I had. Results are:
Vihtavuori N160 and Magtech Ball 695grain bullet.

102gr - 565m/s
104gr - 570m/s
106gr - 590m/s about 1900fps.

4 shoot Group was about 6" with the 3 shoots + the last one offhand at 50meters. I was very bussy holding the gun so I'm pleased with just hitting the target at all. Next time I try to aim a little allso.

Pressure was low and this was fist shoot from 460 brass. Top load should give about 640-650 m/s so I'm not even close yet.

Next I will load with N550 to try to reach 650m/s. Any volonteers for the crony session? Big Grin

Jeffe & I (and others) know for a fact that 650 grainers @ 2150fps is good for "general use" but even more is safely possible if you so desire.

Do not rush into the heavy loads, until to get comfortable shooting good groups with the reduced loads. Then start working your way up to the higher velocity loads. Also, make your self some of the standing tripod shooting sticks, like those used in Africa. They will be a big help to shooting better groups and taking the recoil.

Thomas,

I am not familiar with the 695 grain Magtech bullet, but I assume it is a BMG bullet.

Is this going to be a hunting rifle? If so, you will want to try some 570 and 600 grainers, I would think.

Yes its a BMG bullet. I havent been able to find any other yeat. I should be able to get some woodleight but they are about $60-$70 for 25pcs. I hear there is a guy making casts here in Fi, 600-700 grainers, I try to get some of those allso.

No I probably never go hunt with it, at least its not in my plans at this moment. Its just a switch barrel plinker. Feeding and extracting does not work reliably, especially extracting witch was unreliable allso with the original 416 barrel. (Its a CZ550)

But its a lot of fun Big Grin

Take that thing hunting, even if it is only for rabbits/hares with cast bullets. Go have some real fun with it. I think it COULD even kill a deer.
