boom stick425 westley richards modernized aka 425 CRUSHER
thanks to master rifleman for forming these for us.
here we have the 425 westley richards formed from rum brass so the there is not that ghastly rebate.
the original has a .470" rim to fit the military mausers back in 1909. it was dubbed the poor mans big bore. able to be used in the plentiful and cheap actions of the day. its only drawback is getting it to feed and a monster rebate is not good when your rifle is the only thing stopping you from being killed.
in keeping with the poor mans big bore and its philosophy of designing a cartridge around the gun, there is no need for the rebate any more with cheap and plentiful win mag actions out there.
it is now a suitable d.g. cart again. several companies chamber for it, dies can be bought online as well as the bullets.
it is the grandfather of the a.r. line of carts.
also the cousin to the 404 jeffery of the same era with its similar great feeding case and power but the advantage of working in a standard 06 length action.
it pushes 410 grain bullets @ 2350
here it is flanked by some empties and the 45-70 for scale and to piss some people off.

fordnutterBoomstick where on earth do you find the time??? You just might have to start your own "BoomStick Wildcat Cartridge" Line, followed by reloading manuals then branch out into componentry. The cartridge looks great... so when do you start building one?

boom sticki dont know if there are many more wildcats to be created...i have come up with maybe 30 and come up with others that have already been done...creating and ideas are easy...its the making guns part that is the hardest.
but this is realy an updated classic more than a wildcat. thanks to the rum brass.
here we have the 404, some 425 w.r. brass made from rum brass with original .470" rebate flanked by a factory 425 w.r. and a 9,3x62 on the far right.
i say lose 60 thousandths of needless rebate!
rebarrel and chamber a 7 mag to a classic d.g. gun with cheap brass. same line of thinking as the a.r. line except this needs no custom dies or reamer. the original standard action african d.g. gun. westley richards had it mostly right.
Perfect on a donor Rem700 action in 300RUM ... man that gives me nightmares!! Still well done BS ... it is a novel idea!
Cheers...
Con

molemanBS,
Is this any different than the .425 Lott? I guess I could ask instead if RUM brass is dimensionally different than .404 Jeffrey brass?
Kurt
Boomstick,
I have long considered this! The RUM case provides a nice economical improved case for the 425 WR. Are you going to build one? No custom reamers required and will build on any rifle originally chambered for a RUM cartridge with only a barrel change.

SnellstromWow That line up in the second picture makes the "mighty" 45/70 look like a tiny and pathetic .38 special!

you dont need a long magnum acton...use any 7 mag or win mag action
