I have a Rossi 92 in 480 Ruger. Keeping to listed fairly low pressure loads, it's a potent round in a rifle.

It is the 454 Casuall that is 65,000 psi and 475 Linbaugh (sp) that is high pressure.

The 480 Ruger is 48,000 psi.

I am not educated with regard to what is considered high pressure for a double. I’m guessing action size, means of lockup, barrel steel composition and chamber wall thickness must all play a part. Anyone care to enlighten me?

The 450 3 1/4 Nitro pressure is rated at 44,237 psi.

There are doubles built for 375 HH and I have seen over under Kregioff in 458 Lott.

I have seen Merkels and Heyms with 300 WM barrels. A few 458 WM.

However, traditional wisdom, now with modern doubles, more for extraction than strength, is to keep pressure below 50k psi.

pressure, as a thing, isn't the only thing - but bolt thrust...

which I why i build 45/120 doubles, rather than either 458 winmag, or 450 NE (either)

in that, well, 45/120 brass WAS relatively cheap, and of great quality from norma
