Is the Ruger Safari rifle considered to be an accurate and quality firearm for hunting Cape Buffalo. I would buy the 416 Rigby.

It's not a Holland & Holland. But it is a nice looking and accurate rifle with most of the desirable features sought for in a DGR rifle. I have had mine(.416 Rigby) for eight years and with a good bullet and good placement, it is serious medicine for Mr. Nyati. I feel that is one of the best buys in DGR rifles for the money.

Hello,
I have three of them, 375HH, 416Rigby, and the potent 458Lott and each of them work very smoothly, accurate, and appear to be of quality throughout. Next step up in fit and finish would run you some twice the amount,$$$$, if not more for a magazine DG rifle, but I do not believe even with the additional expense you are buying more performance. Perhaps class and fit and finish, but the Ruger will do it's job just as well I believe. All of my RSM's are a bit on the heavy side, but that is welcomed when handling the recoil of the rounds for which they are chambered. For the price, features, performance, do not believe they can be out done. Good Luck!!

For a stock(store bought) rifle, I'd say it's a bit ahead of the others out there. I've got a few RSM's and I love 'em. They're solid and damn near bullet proof. Because of concerns of 458Lott's in the past year, I'll have mine reinforced between the magazine and the trigger guard. I'm in the process of glassing all of my boomers.

Thank you guys for all of the responses. It sounds like the Ruger is a good purchase. I had some questions due to the article I read from the zimbabwe P.H. society. They questioned the ability of the Ruger to eject an empty when the bolt was worked quickly.

Tony,
there was a cycle of the 416 that had trouble with ejecting, but this is a mod now in the line.

however, it would be poor advice if I didn't mention that, like anything else, a specialist gunsmith (in this case, big bores) should make certain it feeds and functions
