This is my project. Remington M 30-S action and bolt, Pacnor 416 Rigby CM barrel 24 inch, GAG express style stock. I had them leave wood in the trigger guard area because I'm making my own bottom metal. Its the ugly one in the picture! Its the prototype, so the ugly holes in the magazine and other things won't be in the final version. Obviously it needs final shaping of the latch and hinge. What do you guys think of the general shape of the bow etc, bearing in mind this is a prototype.Constructive criticism is welcome.A 1903 Springfield guard is also included for reference. I'm really enjoying the metal work, not so hot on the wood. This is my first stock so it's kind of frustrating. I definitely like metal work better. Once I've got the bottom metal how I want it I'll get the stock done, then strip the action and make sights, quarter rib, scope mounts etc. By the way, if anyone knows where I can get a cock on open M30 cocking piece, I need one. I'd rather not modify the M30 bolt.

I've been doing the mag box in my spare time at the shop on the Haas vmc. It could be duplicated on a manual like my bridgeport, but the time factor makes it a challenge. Now that I've got it figured the next one will be easy. First I need to make sure it fits and locates on the action properly. Then decide how deep to leave the magazine portion. I was going to make the depth the same as a stock enfield box. That would be from bottom of the action to the top of the trigger guard plate? tang? whatever. So the box will actually be deeper because mine will protrude downward, I like that slightly pregnant look on big bores. My inspiration is the ones posted at www.golmatic.de I really like those.I used the guidelines Mr. Burgess posted here for my widths, I'm making it 3.850 long inside. Still have to design my floorplate. When I do I was thinking of cnc engraving it with an outline of africa, a number one and maybe my initials.Any suggestions?

wanna577,

You are really going to enjoy your 30S, hopefully as much as I have mine.

One suggestion, mill out the striper guide on the rear bridge of the receiver. As it cannot be used in the new chambering and it will just be in the way. Here is mine, below.

I know its in rough draft form, but that is VERY nicely done so far!

I have a 30S that some idiot screwed into a 26" SS bull barrel in .444 Marlin. It is going to be a Lott someday.

Keep the photos coming, I am impressed with your design!

Very nice!! I have a 30 S that was barreled and chambered for the 375 Dakota cartridge and it is very, very nice. The metal work was done by Steve Heilmann and the stock by Goudy. The damn thing shoots like a target rifle. The entire action was polished and stoned for perfect feeding and it feeds as though it is on bearings.
