577 Macifej flat nose solids anyone?

boom stick577 Macifej flat nose solids anyone?
Macifej who is a glutton for punishment has volunteered to make a premium flat nose truncated cone banded solid if there was a min order of 300 pieces.
Is there any interest out there for some 577 packyderm hammers?
11 February 2008, 05:33
Macifej Would look like the 550.......could be copper rather than brass if there is a concensus.
11 February 2008, 09:07
KennethIWe are talking about .585 diameter right? Do you have an idea of what the price will be?

yes .585"
The cost would depend on material and quantity to be sure... Macifej, any guideline on price?
11 February 2008, 10:10
MacifejSorry Guys I was out.
If I can run them with another order.....$295.00 per hundred shipped. Could probably ship them in quantities of 50 if there are 6 guys who want them.
14 February 2008, 06:35
MacifejFrank,
I can do whatever weight you guys agree on. 650 is probably ideal for the design. I'd suggest you guys do them in copper if you plan on using them in low pressure doubles. This is a 577 NE chambering, I'm assuming and not some other 577.
14 February 2008, 06:40
boom stick650 solid flat nose copper should be a fine penetrator.
Now we need to sell 195 more

(5 for me)
14 February 2008, 08:37
MacifejGot orders for three hundred thus far so lets get a few hundred more to get the cost back into an earth orbit.
Will be 650 Grain Solid Copper FN.
14 February 2008, 09:22
boom stickGreat news!
Will they be ready for the Texas big bore gathering?
14 February 2008, 09:28
Idaho Sharpshooterpencil me in for 50, and hope we can get them by 29th of February so I can get them loaded for the big shoot out. Now I need Jeffeosso to line a few hogs up!

MacifejPossibly Boomer.
When do you guys need to have them?
14 February 2008, 12:15
boom stickWell Feb 29th per Rich...
Is that doable?
14 February 2008, 20:05
MacifejHeading to the shop today. Will give you guys an update this evening re: delivery date.
Should be able to make the deadline for the shoot no problem.
14 February 2008, 21:45
boom stickDoes anyone know the center of canalure to tip on 577's for DR's?
Since there are not many sources maybe the 577 folks could keep him busy in 650 grain and 750 orders...
Macifej...do you have enough orders for both weights?
The good thing is you can use multiple canalures on this design.
Butch could send you some good business!
15 February 2008, 03:32
MacifejWorking on a "modular" concept here. One bullet with an extra segment to accomodate the two weights. Any reason the bolt gun guys can't use the heavier bullet??
15 February 2008, 03:41
boom stickFlat nose solid + .271 SD (650 grain) or 313 SD (750 grain) equals plenty-o-penetration.
Both are classic weights but one is more for complete pass throughs.
I dont think there is a problem with capacity...even if there was in the bolts you could load out further with the multiple canalure options.
I am giddy either way.
Anyone want to try Rich's 1,010 grain cast 577??? (.422 SD)
15 February 2008, 03:54
MacifejI'd like to try that big lead banger one day.
Regarding the 577 weight. It needs to be 750 grains to regulate in the Searcy Doubles. I'll calc it out with the cannlure in the correct NE location and you guys can decide if it's workable in the bolt guns length wise.
Are you guys still working on the Gibbs COAL of 3.83" for the 577 Boomerang?
15 February 2008, 04:09
boom stickThe Gibbs OAL is good IMHO but I think Rich's gun will be able to do more...
What is the stock CZ magazine length?
The loaded 577 BME with a 650 grain Woodleigh soft designed for DR's loads out to about 3.6" OAL. seen in this pic
15 February 2008, 04:25
MacifejGive me a few minutes and I'll have it together here in a final form. I think this is gonna work for most every rifle.
15 February 2008, 05:04
MacifejOk Boyz!
Your latest Masterpiece is complete.
.585" Major .569" Minor
1.37" LOA
750 Grains in solid copper.
Same nose and tail angles as usual.
AND!! it's SHarkee!! With 5 Gill pairs like the .666" Teufel.
15 February 2008, 06:04
boom stickI have GOT to see a pic of this "Hammerhead" Sharkee...
can you make the 650 in "banded"?
15 February 2008, 06:08
MacifejThey'll probably go on the machine mid next week.
I can make anything you can dream up Boomer! You know that.
15 February 2008, 06:13
RIPBoomer,
You ought to consider the stock CZ 550 Magnum box to be 3.85" inside length.
It can be a little longer with the various .505 Gibbs treatments that CZ was experimenting with when it first came out.
A picture of another SHark would be nice.
Those gills make for excellent "death crimps."
Whatever any single expert on double rifles might say, I would want a good crimp on double rifle ammo, as surely as bolt action ammo.
Alas, I am too frail to mess with anything as big as the .585, unless it was just for a .577 NE double weighing about 12.5 pounds. Making the bullet work in a DR will expand its appeal for sure.
Kiss up to Butch.
15 February 2008, 06:25
MacifejIt'll work easily in either. Most of these old cases have the same magic .7" snout so it's a no brainer to load.
I'm sure Mr. Searcy can conjure up a new 12.5 LB 577 for ya RIP!! You'd have time to properly dispose of some of your rendundant hardware in anticipation.
15 February 2008, 06:35
boom stickRip...go down to the Texas shoot to shoot the 577 BME. It shouldnt be too bad in classic loads in a bolt rifle...
So Mac...
The crimp will be .7" from crimp to tip and the next fin crimp will be what length from tip to crimp? .83???
15 February 2008, 06:42
RIPYeh, right, finish WIPping out the Works In Progress and then survey for redundancy. None of the .395's are redundant.
However, I would rather have Butch make a 400/.395 NE Aboriginal for me first: 10.03x74R
That one will need to be 8 pounds even, and a joy to carry, even when I am going on safari with a 4-point walker and wearing Depends under my cargo pants.
15 February 2008, 06:44
MacifejTop of groove to top of groove is .1038".
You could load out to the second groove and have a COAL of 3.8038" in the Nitro and 3.9538" in the Gibbs based cases.
577 NE case is 3.000"
505 Gibbs case is 3.150"
15 February 2008, 06:53
boom stickThe 577 BME is a 3" case to keep in close parentage to the 577 NE
so with the 750 "hammerhead" and the 577 NE and BME you would have a choice of 3 oal's
3.7", 3.80" and 3.9"ish
The BME with that bullet should be able to do black powder velocities for piggies, classic NE velocities for nostalgia/recoil and 2,400 fps estimated for T-rex recoil junkies using all three canalures. Cool!
15 February 2008, 06:58
MacifejThat's the idea.
Your new Avatar looks like Rasputin!!

15 February 2008, 07:00
boom stickThat be Blackbeard you be talking about. Arrrrrr!
15 February 2008, 07:01
Idaho Sharpshootermy Wisner box is an even 4.00" ID, so I am good to go with what we end up with. I would prefer the 750gr, the initial plan with the .577 BME is to chronograph the 750gr bullet at an honest 2200fps from a 24" barrel.

MacifejIt's done and it's definitely a 750 Copper at 1.37" LOA.
You boyz taking those 585 Bolt guns to the SHoot - Hoot - Toot Gathering??
15 February 2008, 09:27
boom stickThe first 577 BME will be there via Rich and if that list is right on the gathering thread and correct me if I am wrong Jeffe he listed the T-rex and the Nyati.
15 February 2008, 09:40
MacifejSounds like there be some guys who need some of these new 750's then.

are those lit cigarettes sticking out of your avatar's ears?

boom stickWhen boarding a ship Blackbeard put cannon fuses under his hat like dreads and lit them on fire to be more frightening.

MacifejBoomer is probably related to the late Blackbeard.........
OK.....So here's the deal boyz on your 750 Grain Monster.
100 Count per box
Copper $395.00 shipped in the 48
Brass $295.00 shipped in the 48
The cost of the copper alloy is over three times the price of the brass alloy we normally use.
Take your pick as I can do both in the same run. Those of you who have not confirmed your order please do ASAP so we make the Big Bore Shoot, Hoot, & Toot Fest deadline in Texas.
16 February 2008, 20:10
MacifejThanks Frank.....
17 February 2008, 00:22
boom stickMac...
since North Fork has gone away sadly if you copy the design and weight or just the weight and length for loading purposes you will be busier than a _______________ (fill in the metaphor)
The cup point solids were cool.
Call them "South Fork's"

17 February 2008, 06:26
MacifejThanks for the input Boomer but I'll stick to my own designs.
