Clan_CollaChris unpacked the first US delivered Heym/ Martini 505 -
I handled it today-
What a beaut-
He and Tony are off with it and the new 89B 450-400 Light to HSC then SCI.
I will catch up to them at SCI next Monday
If he gets a free minute during this busy time, perhaps Chris will post a bit more on the rifle.

PD999I wonder if the 505 is built on the same Express action as all the other Express calibres, or whether a special larger action was designed especially for the 505, thus accounting for the large price discrepancy for this calibre?

Similar could be said of the CZ 550 Magnum .505 Gibbs:
"Like 550 Magnum, but with a larger system inside; 3 cartridges in the magazine box (3 + 1)."
Sumbuddy take a ruler and caliper to SCI, take notes, and report back.
It would be interesting to know the inside width of the magazine box at front and rear,
and the overall length of the action, on the .505 Gibbs, between centers on the action screws at least,
compared to a .416 Rigby by Heym.

RIPAt 0.785" it does have a larger bolt diameter than Brevex and CZ 550 Magnums (0.700"), Granite Mountain Magnum (0.750"),
but it is not as large as The MRC PH (0.805").
I have not seen any dimensions on this action length and box widths.
I do love to check for Mauser Cosine Law perfection in magazine boxes.

I also wondered whether the MRC PH would be better for the .505, as I was worried whether there was enough bolt face left for the bigger case head of the .505; the MRC PH is available with bolt face sizes of .596" or .648".

PD999Importantly the Heym 'Martini-Express' action doesn't have a 3rd integral lug! No matter the reason given ('modern steels mean no need for 3rd lug' etc), it would have been nice to have the 'comfort' of having that 3rd lug. Bean-counters at work?

That bolt, blocking recess is in my mind no very similar to the additional "lug" on a Springfield bolt body.
