Max, I assume you got .375 Ruger brass delivered a few days after you ordered it from Midway. I did too. Did you mean .395 Ruger Max cartridge reloading dies or bullet swaging dies? That would be very enterprising of you to take care of the .375 Ruger Max dies while I am doing the .395 Tatanka. Gerard will be making his own dies using a Dave Manson die reamer for the .395 GSC.

Any ideas on how you would do the RUMsveld and what the cost to kick off a reamer would be? ------------------------------- Some Pictures from Namibia Some Pictures from Zimbabwe An Elephant Story

Charles, Great job on the photo albums, again. Nice tuskless cow. Love the landscapes too. If you join the .395 Mob you have to allow us to call you "Yeager" as in "Chuck." He was a dead-eye squirrel hunter from WVA. I see that the Manson web site is being revamped, "under construction." IIRC, the cost of a solid pilot reamer would be about $110 or $120, and the removable pilot reamer is $190. I like to get the removable pilot for future wildcatting possibilities. A go guage is $50. For instance: My .395 Tatanka reamer could be used with a .423 pilot to turn my .423/.338 Lapua Magnum into a .404 Tatanka. This would be a full length .416 Rigby with 20-degree shoulder (instead of 45-degree), necked up to .423. Presto: 404 Tatanka. There exists a .416 Tatanka that is the 404 Jeffery necked down to .416, with the retro 8.5-degree shoulder. It is not the .416 Dakota, but similar, therefore. If I ran my .395 Tatanka reamer with .416 pilot into the chamber of a .416 Rigby, I would have a .416 Rigby with 20-degree shoulder and slightly larger case capacity than the .416 Rigby. Since the .416 Tatanka name has already been claimed, I would have to call mine the ".416 Rigby-Tatanka" or ".416 Lakota." Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull would be proud. Surely the Lakota Sioux would not want to Sioux me for borrowing the Lakota language names? Custer got Siouxed.

Thank you sir! So ~$250 would get a reamer and go-gauge ordered. Now all I need is to figure if this is just a .375 RUM necked up or something more exotic. And locate some cash for dies, a donor action, and order a barrel, etc... ------------------------------- Some Pictures from Namibia Some Pictures from Zimbabwe An Elephant Story

Add another to my list of must do's: .395 RUMsveld My choice of actions: M70 Classic Stainless with 300 RUM box: 3 down CZ 550 Magnum with .375 H&H box reworked: 4 down After all, a special meeting of the .395 Family voted unanimoosely to welcome a black sheep, rebated-rim cartridge into the family. Alas, it was a non-export hunt. Nothing comes home but pictures and memories. Westley-RUMsveld... ------------------------------- Some Pictures from Namibia Some Pictures from Zimbabwe An Elephant Story

A 425 Westley-RUMsveld would have no rebate at all in comparison to the 425 Westley-Richards. The 425 Westley-RUMsveld would be a lot better cartridge than the original 425WR. First things first: .395 RUMsveld The .395 Tatanka, .395 GSC, .395 Ruger Max, and .395 RUMsveld ...the Fantastic Four ... or a Triple Threat and a Black Sheep. Not baa-aa-aa-d at all. What fun. I gotta find some use for all that RUM brass.

As far as reloading dies, I was waiting until my action was barreled and chambered, then send three fired cases off for the dies to be made. This is what I've done before with wildcats. Do you see anything wrong with this thinking? Do you have any preference as far as who makes the dies? I've got custom dies from RCBS, Hornady, and Redding. All have been very good, leaving me with no particular preference. Max .395 Family Member DRSS, po' boy member Political correctness is nothing but liberal enforced censorship

Max, Since it is based on the new .375 Ruger case by Hornady, it might be best to go with Hornady for the .395 Ruger Max. I'll go there first too. They might be ready soon as you need them. Redding, RCBS, Hornady. Yes, all good. I'll have to get finished with the .395 Tatanka and .395 Ruger Max before I move on to the .395 RUMsveld. Gerard has the .395 GSC in the works, based on the ubiquitous .375 H&H which he can find even in RSA. .395 Squirrel rifles should be quite the craze this fall.
