I just put up a post in the reloading section asking for some info on this cartridge. I thought I'd put up a link here in case anyone can help out with some reloading info.

I have one that I haven't started reloading for but plan to use 9.3x57 data as a starting point. Should be pretty dang close.

One of my close friends, recently passed, had several of them over the years and said the Hornady 270 RN was the best bullet he ever tried in them. They can be tricky to find but they are out there. I sold him about 300 of them after I got rid of my 375 Whelen. He was thrilled to find them as he had two 9.5X57's at the time and was looking at a third. He said they flattened feral hogs like crazy. I think the above advice is sound. 9.3x57 data is a great place to start.

"...I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independance to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." I only have experience with 270 grain Woodleighs with this chambering.

I may be able to help you with this. Well we may end up helping each other.

You can check my 2 posts over the last few years on restocking my 1910 take down model Mannlicher-Schoenauer and trying to shoot it with open sights.

I am working with 9.3X57 Norma Brass fire formed. Also some 35 Whelan reformed brass from Buffalow bore. Also got CH4D dies from them.

I do not have any round nose bullets and I cannot find them here in NZ. Woodleigh bullets are very expensive.

I am using 270 Hornady & 250 Sierras.

Powders tried are IMR 3031, Re15, Varget (AR 2208) and H322. The ball powders like Ramshot or H380 or Win 748 may also be good but I do not have any.

At the moment my pick is either Varget (AR 2208) and H322. These are my starting loads

IMR 3031 47 Sierra SP 250 gr 2050 fps
ADI 2207 41 Sierra SP 250 gr 2130 fps - Edited - this is similar to IMR 4198
Hodn H322 42 Sierra SP 250 gr 1930 fps

9.5 x57 MS aka 375 Express

Take a 8x57 or if you are so fortunate to have 9.3x57's and simply fire them through the 9.5 MS
Then trim and neck etc.
3031 or equivalent burn rate

Load using 3031 45.5 gr on a 235 speer bullet
Or 42 gr on a 270 gr bullet
Remember the original rifles were only rated for 44,000 psi

I was fortunate enough to own a 1910 mS in 9.5 x 56/57 MS. i just would fill the case to the base of the neck with 3031, nd go have fun. it shot to point of aim. The loads listed above jibe with my experiences. nifty take-down rifle.

Please note that the loads I have given above are for 250 gr Sierra bullets and are mild. I should be able to get another 250 fps at leas for a good 44000 cup load.

I wish I could find some 270 gr Round Nose bullets here in NZ (other than Woodleigh)

I found some interesting info on the web but I am not sure if this is correct!

Cartridge capacity, grains of water:

9x57 - 62
9.3x57 - 64
9.5x57 - 69
35 Whelen - 71
9.3x62 - 77

This makes the MS case very similar to the 35 Whelan & I do not believe that until I actually see it.

.375" diameter is > .358" diameter. The cartridge is shorter, but fat enough to make up most of the difference. i always shot 270-grain Hornady Round nosed bullets, and added powder until I got to hitting the target at Point of Aim.
