Do you guys ever buy blank dies and make your own with the same reamer as the chamber was cut with?

The chamber reamer was said to be a 510 Wells with the belt ground off. Sorry, but if that was in fact what it was, and it was anywhere near spec, you could not fit a 500 Rigby into that chamber. I cannot even come close to getting a 416 Rigby to fit into my 500 ASquare chamber it interferes. It is supposed to the Rigby is bigger.

Another problem with your suggestion. Chamber reamers are supposed to be larger in diameter across the board than full length resizing reamers!

in a word...NO! I am actually going thru this process as we chat. Dave Manson is about done with my reamers for the 550 on the 505 Gibbs case. Hornady is showing signs of interst, and has offered to make dies for me/us. I think they will make a few extra sets, on "accounta becuz". Dave sent them the reamer print specs so that they could generate the die reamer specs. He will then cut those reamers and send them to Hornady and they will make my dies. If you were doing a one-time chambering, you could send the reamer back and have it recut (sharpened) to cut dies...but no more chambering reamer. It would be way undersize. At least this is my understanding.

I just miked 40 30-378Wby cases (I am building another 22-378Wby-AI) They run from .582 to .584, with one at .585" just in front of the belt. Very consistent.

I next miked the rest of my Norma 416 brass. It all measures .583-.584"

I next miked all of my Rigby headstamped 416 Rigby brass. It measures .583-.584 (one out of 42 miked .585")

I next miked all of my 416 Rigby cylindrical brass. Had thirty left not sized. They all miked .583" Mast Tech brand.

I next miked all of my full length sized 510-KX ready to load and fireform brass. They all miked .583-.584"

Last, I miked the twenty fireformed cases. They all measure .583-.584"

Sooooo, I get the reamer and mike it. It measures .585".

Here is where I am: all of the Rigby, Norma, Rigby cylindrical, and 30-378Wby brass in my possession measures within .002-.003", and 90-percent is .584". I went to Cabela's yesterday and was allowed to mike loaded ammunition and brass. It went .583-.584" in a box of each.

All of the 416-based cartridge cases I own or have accessed measures .583-.584". Am I lucky? Maybe, but not that lucky...if I am I am headed to the store shortly to buy a lottery ticket.

If you wish, you can send me $5 and some of your brass and I will FL size it in my die, and shoot it for you.

Same goes for the RIP-per.

Supposed max Rigby head diameter is 0.589", with rim of .590" max.
Supposed max WBY forward-of-belt: 0.582"

They both should be a few thou smaller in actual, measured brass dimensions, but the absolute difference between the two should be maintained.

BTW, my Norma and Federal .416 Rigby brass measured .585" and the heads of the .338 Lapua measured the same, .585".

My Jamison Rigby basic brass (470 Mbogo) was .586" or .587" for head diameter.

My 460 WBY brass was .579" forward of the belt.

New brass all, not fireformed and sized with Rich's rifle and dies.

I took all of those misbehaving cartridge cases out to the wood shed and cut myself a limber hickory switch. I went ahead and beat the piss out of all them aberrant dogs. You guys are right now, they all swole up to .587-88"

Except now they won't chamber in the rifle, and they tear the rims off when I try and run them in the FL sizing die. Should I let the swelling go down and try them again? Or, just get along with things knowing I have made you happy.

So my cases have all been abused and that is why they measure the sizes they do! Eureka, now we are onto something!!

How long does it take for this abuse induced swelling to go down? Do you think Norma abused my cases? Are there any laws concerning case abuse? Should I contact the authorities?
