I expect so, Mike .. they are flagship products, and every company has to have something to run out for demos ... I also don't expect them to be any cheaper than an RSM, of contemporary vintage opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Mike, you know i am too cheap to buy a 5k rifle! WOW ... that a custom shop or the new list? heh, with some humor, i wonder how far off the 2005 "scare - you'll never get a new m70 again" prices opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Check the last link in my first post Jeffe....and that is from the current website. Prices were those that existed when last made.

They can't even sell what they have on the dealer shelves now, with the standard grade rifles....how the heck are they going to sell the same rifles with upgraded wood for those prices? Someone at Winchester needs to get a bit of oxygen........so they can think a bit more clearly. Last month at Cabelas they were discounting what model 70's they had on the rack.....they can't even sell the featherweight deluxe rifles for $800. I think they feel they will save the "new" company with limited runs of "custom shop" rifles at elevated prices........ain't gonna happen. I am betting within 5yrs the company gets sold again.

I dont think there is a Winchester company any more than there is a Buick or was an Oldsmobile Company. Winchester is a brand name. The name can go on Japanese Miruko M1892,94,86 guns or SC,USA M70's. Or whatever happens, happens. There is no company to sell, just a name to get passed around or used as the international corporation see fit. Browning is also just a brand name owned by the same corporation. Either name can can slapped on or off any product. Today it maybe be and 1885 Browning, tomorrow it might be an 1885 Winchester. You have factories in europe, japan, usa probably elsewhere. Browning BOSS recoil reduction system on the end of M70 barrels - holy crap. I think there is a market for the model 70. And a market for high end guns. Seems like a reasonable question, when will a high end custom M70 will be available. An engraved commemorative high end Miruku Wincheseter M1894 is listed for 2010. I dont expect to see FN sell the Winchester name any sooner than they let go of the Browning label. Money in the bank, the only question is what gun to slap which name onto. I hope it includes an American made M70.

I shoot a pastle of Model 70 Winchesters, one is a Custom Shop production rifle that will impress the most critical of shooters, with detail and utility. In other words that sucker is drop dead georgous and will shoot lights out. The latest is a Featherweight Deluxe from South Carolina, that is just as attractive and shoots as well as the Custom Shop edition. As long as somebody, I don't care if it is FN or or a succeeder, whoever builds rifles of that quality that will shoot, there will be plenty of gun men that will most certainly buy them. Now, they may not give Cebelas prices, but they will be bought. They will also head up the traders list of bought and sold items, even in PODUNK USA, at the end of the day. Just my .02 worth, and you may have yours. Good shooting. phurley

I don't care what you say, that's a terrific rifle - and Winchester should definitely make them again! I love my Winchesters. They are fine rifles, and Winchester is a company with a great tradition. I do hope they continue for many decades to come. Here are some Winchester ads from the past that capture a lot of the history and tradition. Love this one - nothing like a grizzly bear to focus one's attention! Pronghorn down. Even in France: "Winchester Arms and Ammunition Sold Here." Another classic: This one, from Italy, is definitely my favorite: "A New Brand." Que bella! Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Now thats what I call brand recognition. I downloaded that image for archives. "Que bella!" Indeed. I guess this poster is Spanish. "mujer bella" Where is oscar when we need him ? What was the line: "I could get used to teepee living ... something something" from the movie Josey Wales?

No, it's definitely Italian. Spanish would be "una nueva marca." Still, gotta love it in any language! Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

I too, love my Winchesters, and they, for the most part, form the bases of my African DR and plains game bolt action batteries. All of them have been customized. My .458 Lott however, is a customized Ruger.

<double post - sorry) Just called winchester/browning .. they are "excited" about the 375 ruger, and "can NOT (emphasis on their end) confirm" that they will be offering any guns in the caliber .. What does that mean? well, they said NO, but implied it was going to happen ... Oh, yeah, an no new safari rifles have been shipped to distribution -- they don't expect any until 3rd quarter opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? My 416 is a custom african express ( the top one ) and it is my favorite rifle of any I own, or have owned. It has a krieger barrel and is very accurate. I love the overall quality of the rifle which is as nice as either of the Dakotas I own (375 and 404 jeff). It is a bit heavy for some of you guys but not as heavy as the Ruger RSM 416 that I once had. Back then the Ruger had a 24" barrel, as does the 70 African.
