you don't want to know...

Got salvation with one phonecall...to Marc Jamison.
He is running the basic case this week, and offered to sell me fifty at a "gimme" price. Sooooo, I been chasing this idea of a flanged version of my 550 Gibbs Magnum around in my head, using the same dies as the rimless original. Now to find a shell holder!

I'll keep you posted.

Need any P17's?

sadly, no.
I would not waste one doing a 9,3x62. Any standard 98 will suffice for an 'o6 length cartridge. I got a CZ FS in X62...perfect Alaskan rifle.
I do know where an full military remington M34/35 is in 7mm Mauser...untouched! About $400 though with shipping it up to you.

Rich, sounds like you and Jeffe are going to make the leap to the "mega bore society".
Hmmmm, a double 550! Sounds like a potent stopper!

Yeah, in an eleven pound rifle it might stop my heart...but just for a minute or two
For the four interested people, I just got the notion to see what a flanged version would look like. It would be cool to to have the rim for a DR project coming up. Soooo, I thought I'd wheedle a couple cases out of somebody here and see what it looked like. Then I get the bright idea to call Jamison and see if maybe there are a couple laying around in a bin somewhere I might buy. He makes my day by telling me they are running the 577 3.25" basic case this week.
I'm getting enough to play around a bit with. Still have the Browning BSS 12 ga Magnum sitting in the corner, still talking to Searcy a little, still have the dream. A gunsmith friend tells me it would be simple to chuck the barrels up in the lathe to contour/chamber and just cut the rim/flange recess at the same time.
