howdy ...

the nitro rounds, from .458 to .485 bullets ALL are ~500grains at about 2150s fps, and all are about 45,000 cup (not psi) pressure max .. 450, 450 ne2, 45/120, 465, 470, 475, etc etc etc all fall into this range .. the 500 NE is slightly more powder .. the 577 ne 3" eve more, the 600 ne has a reputation for poor penetration, and the 700 was built just because HH said they aren't building any more 600s .... same for the 800

there's a TON of history to learn around this, but the above wraps it up .. find bullets for the .465 .. or a double rifle .. bottlenecked double nitro express (NE) rounds don't matter a bit over straight, in terms of performance.. they are built for moderate pressure ...

everything one learns about mediums and small bores is wrong for big bores ... everything

Popular - yes to a point, in H&H Rifles although I have one in a WR double.

Not as popular as some (450NE, 470NE) as it was a semi proprietary cartridge whereas the 470NE was more universally accepted.

The 500/465 is not the same as the 465 H&H.
500/465 is rimmed. the 465 H&H is based on the 460 Weatherby case head diameter, and belted.

correct!
Both were established by H&H, the rimmed 1906/07, when the British Government outlawed .450 caliber guns in india, and the belted in the first years of the 21th century, developed by Wolfgang Romey, Germany.

Good point, I had forgotten about the BA Cartridge.

So many people refer to the 500/465 as the 465H&H because it is so
universally associated with Holland.

The NEW 465H&H was designed / developed by Holland's and made by Romey for them.

Not quite true. The original 465 Holland caliber was termed differently and you can see it in head stamps. I have cases marked 500/465, 465 H&H, and 465 Nitro. The H&H double rifles in this calber were sometimes called the India model. In a H&H catalogue it is also called the .465 Cordite and .465 Bore or simply the 465.

I believe the new addition of H&H is called the 465 H&H Rimless.
