Anyone know of a source for a bore guide for a CZ 500 in 500 Jeffery? I've tried the usual suspects, no luck so far.

Thanks!

Chuck

Chuck

Can't you just use a 1/2" ID PVC pipe cut to length?

Chuck if you find one let me know. I asked Jason at CZ if they could get me one...no luck. It seems after 416 cal. you are on your own. I tried to get Sinclair to make me one a while back and they said .458 and up the plastic gets too thin and quality suffers.

Even the coated Dewey rods that I have, I still don't like running them down the bore without a bore guide.

No, the .500 Jeffery bore is .510", but the case is .615" at the shoulder and .620" at the web, so the chamber is slightly larger and the OD of the pipe only has to be slightly smaller.

A quick check of Schedule 40 & 80 pipe dimensions shows that '3/8"' is closest:
Nom.
Pipe
Size O.D. I.D. Min. Wall
3/8" 0.675 0.473 0.091
1/2" 0.840 0.602 0.109

Seems to me you would want to use the 1/2" ID PVC pipe, as George said. Chamfer the end of it so you can wedge it into the chamber shoulder area, that will be a good guide and same diameter as bore of rifle barrel.

I have done some with the home-cut plastic tubing shoved into an empty cartridge case (cut off head of case) and the neck end of the empty shoved into the chamber as a bore guide.

Stick a cutoff 500 Jeffery case on the end of the 1/2"-ID-PVC, fit it if necessary by chamfer-and-whittle,
epoxy or simply wedge,
and then you will be crapping in the high cotton.

If you sketch something out I'll take a look at making a short run of them. Can be whatever material - if plastic then delrin or something hard is better.

The one thing to be aware of when using a cartridge case as part of a bore guide is that you may get a false positive when using some solvents as I did in my 404. kept getting a blue tinge to the patch till I thought it through.

Delrin or Titanium are non-reactive ...

I usually make mine from teflon rod with a 3/8-5/16 hole through it. Turn it down to chamber dimensions and add a O-ring to keep the solvent in the bore. -Rob
