Seems to me you would want to use the 1/2" ID PVC pipe, as George said. Chamfer the end of it so you can wedge it into the chamber shoulder area, that will be a good guide and same diameter as bore of rifle barrel.
I have done some with the home-cut plastic tubing shoved into an empty cartridge case (cut off head of case) and the neck end of the empty shoved into the chamber as a bore guide.
Stick a cutoff 500 Jeffery case on the end of the 1/2"-ID-PVC, fit it if necessary by chamfer-and-whittle,
epoxy or simply wedge,
and then you will be crapping in the high cotton.
