For 303Epps: Jason "You're not hard-core, unless you live hard-core." _______________________ Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt. Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure. -Jason Brown

No question in my book. The 404 has always been the most popular or prolifically produced and used. Von Gruff.

I really like my 416 Ruger but Ruger needs to get behind it if they want it to stay around. They need to produce it in something other than the Alaskan & #1. Free men should not be subjected to permits, paperwork and taxation in order to carry any firearm. NRA Benefactor

.416 Ruger, .416 AccRel, .416 B&M in a bolt gun. Now, with great bullets, .450 Marlin in a Browning Lever Action. All light and handy and great killers. From a practical standpoint the 416 Rem. or 416 Ruger is the best and will be the most popular. The 416 Rem holds the present title on sales of guns and ammo in the USA and Africa.. I suspect the new kid on the block, the 416 Ruger will make some headway into the Remingtons relm before long, it sure has a lot going for it.. A few of us old curmudgeons and young nostalgics will always have a soft spot for the 404 Jefferys. Its just a great caliber. But I still have a 416 Remington, and it will do anything my 404 will do and I can normally get one more round in the .416 Rem magazines.. One thing for sure and that is you won't go wrong with any one to the three voted on.. I do have a problem with the .416 Rigby, the action required is too big and makes the gun too big by comparison to the others without gaining anything, and I would not waste a big action on a 40 caliber, it should be a 500 something or other. But then that's just a personal opinnion, not to be imposed on others, only suggested.
