I think it takes 5 or 6 grains of Dacron fluff in the 470 NE with RL-15. That's what Ms. Seyfried recommends. Foam varieties vary greatly, but densities are quite uniform in a particular type of polyurethane foam. Some very dense, some very light. Mine were also cut with the chamfer sharpened case mouth of a 50 BMG, about 1/2" thick plugs. So Butch Searcy recommends Styrofoam? I wonder what Ms. Seyfried would say about that?

An absolutely incredible diatribe on fillers. I have used dacron and cotton to position the powder next to the primer in the 444 marlin and the 45-70, both Marlin lever actions. I used them with IMR 4227 and H110 for reduced loads with cast bullets and loads taken directly from the books on the 44 mag and 45 long colt for Ruger strength guns and had nothing but delightful shooting. Is it possible that the really big cartridges should be used with full power loads. Is it not the power you were seeking when you bought the rifles? Half a cotton ball is an excellent filler that does partially burn sometimes so you have to watch for smoldering on the ground but dacron in my experience never ignites.

I have not read the latest article about the filler. Is Ross really talking about Nitro Express rounds or BPE? Does someone have a copy to email to me? Rusty We band of brothers.

I have beeb trying to find Dacron fiber for use as filler. All I can find is "100% new polyester fiber". Can it be safely used in the same manner as Dacron?

It has been a while since this has been discussed. Has anybody heard from Ross S. on why foam is a problem and poly is not?

450No2, Good question, I cant remember who was going to try to track him down on it. I still dont have my #2 dies so havent been able to work on loads. I pulled a bullet on the ammo I got from SafariArms, it is 110 grns of what is almost surely RL22 with the 480 woodleigh, and NO filler. I havent had any problems with these loads so far. Do you have any experience with RL22 in the 450#2? -Ron

Capt. I have only used IMR 3031, IMR4831, and RL-15 in my 450 No2. All have given me good accuracy and good regulation, and shoot to the sights. I need to shoot some more with RL-15,I think it is going to shoot the best with 480 Woodleighs and 500gr. Hornadys. I am still going to use 81gr. of 3031 with the 350gr Hornady SP. That load shoots real good. Velocity is @2330fps.
