Yes, you got a good deal!

The mag box is long in them... go ahead and punch it out to 458 lott. Bed it, cross-bolt it, have the action slicked up and shoot it for the rest of your life.

You got a great deal, and if it has the peep sight, an amazing one.

bed it... it's 20 years old and lightly WAY dry from unuse

the safety will drive you nts, pull BACK to safe

You got a good deal. Most folks here will insist you rechamber it to the Lott. I don't think it is necessary if it feeds well but it is simple to do and really doesn't detract any either. The original stocks were a bit skimpy for full house 458 Loads, especially Lotts, so your idea of bedding it first is a good one.
It should be useful as it is and with another $500-$600 wisely spent you can have a serious, no-nonsense, dangerous game rifle.

I think you got a terrible deal. Just look, the safety is backwards. You'll never ever get used to that. Why it is just like cocking the hammer of your old wincheser 94 or marlin 30-30. You can never figure out how to do that! Just because I am a nice guy I will take it off your hands for what you paid in one heart beat. Big Grin

You are very kind, but it would only help me if you took the 30-06 with the Kassel optic scope I bought at the last gun show that is just like it. I had to give $400.00 for it. I hate to break up a pair. I know it too much to ask.
3 years ago i could not spell big bore, now there is a 375 H&H and a 416 rem mag in the safe. I am going to start my wife with cast bullets on this one. If she likes it will be easier to get her to agree to a 3 rd mortage for that 470 nitro side by side.

Dr selling you the 06 would get me in a hell of a lot of trouble. My wife shot a zebra and a gemsbuck last year with one just like it. That rifle had a Smith&Binder scope on it. I told her I bought the 06 for her just in case we got to go back to africa, now I have to ask to shoot it. The best laid plans of mice and men----
