Ackley Improved UserFeed & Function of Bolt Guns with Proper Bullets
Michael, you speak very highly of the CEB "non cons". Would they work for brain shots on elephants? It seems they would work for heart-lung shots on elephants. You thoughts? Regards, AIU

Ackley Improved UserRIP, are these followers for the R700 action or not? Does Remington have a special follower for their RUM chambered R700 guns? If so, how does one get one? Regards, AIU

Making wiggle room for the tail of the last cartridge in the staggered stack as expedient factory feed job for RUM/404 Jeffery.
They gouge out the sides of the boxes also, "windowing" as an expedient for a wider box, RUM follower is wider too,
and uses a flatter spring as an expedient to deeper box:

It looks like your best bet may be to get a long magnum follower, and modify it slightly to RUM specifications.

Oh for sure, no Elephant Head is safe from a BBW#13 Solid! Nor his shoulders, heart or lungs!

I have to order some stuff from Midway today so, if they have them, I will order a box of box of Barnes round nose solids. I will let you know how they feed.

Excellent Idea! I am sure I have your address, I will drop some 570 BBW#13 Solids off in the mail to you, but it will be Monday before they go out. Give them a go see what happens as well.

Ackley Improved UserMichael, I worded by question poorly. I'm talking about using the noncon HP for - eg., 370 gr. .416 - for elephant, including the first shot and a magazine filled with them. If not that, start with a 400 gr. CEB solid with a magazine filled with the noncon HPs. Or is this risky?
Why? I love the noncon HP idea and my rifle feeds them perfectly.

I am sorry, doing other things here, did not read it proper, my fault! NONCONS! That is the question!
Flat Honest Opinion! NO--Use Solids for All Elephants!
That being said, I busted a finish shot to the head on that elephant last year, after he was down from the heart shot with a solid, with a 460 BBW#13 NonCon .500 caliber at 2450 fps. He was down and out, but not gone, and I am sure this NonCon reached his brain as it was instant lights out. I did not dig or look and it did not exit. But I would not start the dance out with a NonCon. This was quite by accident as I grabbed anything I could get my hands on to put in that rifle, and it was a NonCon. I knew he was not getting up again so I busted him one.
I think it is "Risky" to consider, yes. If your rifle feeds the NonCon it has to feed the solids.
Fill that magazine full of Solids---go to work on elephant. I am near the point of going all NonCons on buffalo, Near, not fully convinced. But on Elephant, I would only consider Solids.

Cross LWhile we are on the subject I am headed over for Elephant and buff in Sept--the plan right now is 416 B&M With 350 gr BBw#13 solids and matching 325gr Non-cons--plus either 325 NF or 300 barnes for PG --

LionHunterElephant = Solids ONLY in the chamber and magazine! Anything else is an accident waiting to happen and quite frankly very foolish.
Buffalo = Used to be a soft followed by nothing but solids. With todays softs, especially the CEB Non-Con, all softs on Buff can do.
Cross L - I am considering, with Michaels consultation, the 350/325gr combination for my 416Rem in August. My 458B&M will be 450/425gr and possibly some lighter Non-Cons for PG.

I can't comment on the 325gr NF as I've not shot this particular bullet... I can however verify the 300gr TSX is very accurate from the 416 B&M out to 325yds.
