So can a unmodified P14 be used with the rear peep and dog ears left in place. Will it have enough adjustment to line up with a fat barrel and sight on a 600? I know about the feeding and bolt mods. I was just curious about the sights. I like peeps and that would be a tough setup. WOODY Everyone is allowed an opinion, even if its wrong.

Woody- you need a 1917 enfield action with a p14 bolt to make this work. You probably will still need to open the back bridge up. This has been done before so perhaps someone who has built one from a 1917 enfield can chime in with their direct experience.-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

I think I would opt for a Rem mod 30-S or 720 and rebuild the box; it will save you a lot of expense in the long run as it cocks on the opening and has a ground receiver from the factory, and the Rem 30-S is nothing more than a modified Enfield with all the candy done done! To get an idea if it will work take 3 rounds and wrap them in a stagger and secure with a rubber band and measure the width. then measure the box and see if it will open up without weakening the side walls of the stock..I know Jim Wisner has built many 505 Gibbs and 500 Jefferys rifles on that action as have others.. I bought a 505 Gibbs from him about two years ago and it was an awesome rifle with a world of wach on the butt end, so I sold it.. Another rifle that will take any of the big bores is the great Mauser 66, I have one in a 505 Gibbs Imp. at one time..It was really a slick gun and worked like poop through a goose. MIne is being built on a P14 Although its been nearly 2 years now. MY gunsmith is a friend and we have been slowly working on it in our spare time. The only thing left, I'm waiting for the stock and magazine box. Mine has a rear peep, my gunsmith has mounted a block to the rear bridge and the TALLEY peep to the top of it. When we start to sight the rifle in we will be shaving the Talley mount to get the hight right because there is NO up and down adjustment. The reason we went high was I have a large McMaster Muzzle brake and very little taper in the barrel, so we need to see over the top of it. Note that the M17 I originally had was definately a "heavier action" although sadly it had been tapped thru the top action lug so I didnt use it. SO will a P14 work, well lets hope in the next 2 or 3 months I can tell you from experience. regards S&F

A Rem 30S will work as would a 720. However, since I've only actually seen one 720 in my entire life(they were Armed forces competition trophy rifles usually never encountered), there is no way I would even think of using one for a action. The guns are worth as much as a GMA. Good luck with the P14 action.I think your going to have to mill out the rear bridge a bit for reliable extraction and ejection on the top and right side. You will figure that out when you start fooling with the feeding/extraction/ejection.-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!
