I have about 700 projectiles, a variety of Woodleigh, Swift and Barnes. I am really intrigued with shooting something with it this year (dependent on draws, and me volunteering to go to Afghanistan and not knowing when or if I am going). Beyond that I applied for elk and oryx here in New Mexico so that would be ideal. I have a mountain of 350 Woodleighs, and a couple of boxes of 350 Barnes TTSX bullets. I am trying to find a suitable powder, as everything I have is either suitable for a 6.5 CM or a very limited amount of H1000. What are you using in your light weight bullet 416 Remington loads? Reloader 15 worked pretty well in the 416 Remingtons I've owned. MARK H. Good results with Re15 and IMR 4064. Woodleigh manual lists Varget for their 340gr.

I used it with the Barnes X and it is a killing machine and also accurate. Don't overlook it. Guns and hunting

I have only shot my 416 Rem a little, but used AR2206H (H4895) for my loads so far. I have only loaded 400gn bullets, but think H4895 would be good for most bullet weights. ADI give load data here: http://www.adi-powders.com.au/...16-remington-magnum/ Edit to add, AR2208 is Varget, so data for that in the above link too.

I just picked up three boxes of 416 Barnes X bullets, the ones without the grooves. I have read both they produce higher pressure and others say use TSX data. What is the real story? M

In theory all other factors being equal TSX less bearing surface less friction should develop less pressure for a given powder charge than XFB non-grooved. However reviewing 350gr Barnes load data they list less max charge H4895 for TSX??

I bought a 416 Rem from Mark almost 20 years ago and I have used RL15 on his recommendation ever since. Works great with every bullet I’ve shot from 350 to 400 grains, lead core, partition and monolithic. RC Shoot the largest caliber you can shoot well, and practice, practice, practice.

Fast burn rate powder 400gr reduced recoil load gonna give it a try bet it's a dark timber range stomper.

I used mostly RL-15 and my favorite bullet is the 450 gr. Woodleigh on Buffalo, hands down...and no need for a solid, but out of habit I add one to my magazine to come up second.. Where your hunting, in the White Sands Missle base or clost, Id suggest using the 300 gr. as fast as I could push it, but the 350 Woodleigh is a great bullet in the .416, both should be just fine. The results might be a bit disapointing in that they will run a 100 yards and die, about what you can expect from a 30-06 or 300 magnum..Ive used big bores for gathering camp meat as well as on the big stuff on many ocassions, and nothing spectacular took place..good blood trails are to be expected. As others have said, I've been playing around with the .416 Rem. for about 20 years. Unfortunately it wasn't until about 5 years ago that I first tried RL 15. It was a game changer in my rifle. It went from "serviceable" to "brag worthy" with all the loads I tried. No reason for me to try any other powder in that cartridge.

I have just started working up loads for my 416 Remington using 350gr bullets. Plan is to use the 350gr TSX, but with tight availability of supplies I also picked up some 350gr TTSX's and Speers. So far, the Speers are disappointing, the TSX's just fine. Have not tested any TTSX's yet. For powders I tried TAC and H4895 trying to conserve Varget for my 338-06's. I finally tried the Varget and it will now be the powder in my 416. Fortunately I have plenty, but prior to this new use I had enough for ever. I am getting 2578fps with excellent accuracy.

What Speer bullet are you using and what group size did you get. My 416T shoots 350gr mag tips into nice groups.

R15 worked awesome on all bullets from 300 to 416 gr in all my 6 of my 416s . Its just just very hard to find now .It works in tons of different calibers too .

I found IMR4064 a bit better than RL15

350gr, but there is a pretty good jump to the rifling. Averaging > 2.5 inch groups. The TSX's are consistently < 1.5 inches.

A useful practice load I used prior to my buff hunt and just for fun shooting was 60 grains of IMR-4198 with 335 grain Bear Tooth bullet. This provided ~2350 fps. This was much lighter then the hunting load with 350 tsx at 2465 fps. The other practice load i used was with the Speer 350 gr Mag-tips and 80.0 grains of H414 for a velocity of 2150 fps. It was very accurate. Shot a bobcat at 120 yards with it. It was enough gun for the 20 lb. cat.
