I want to mount a Leupold scope on my Ruger and am wondering if anyone has any experience with detachable mounts for the Ruger? Thanks in advance...Dr.Mike in Buffalo

I have used the Warnes on my .416R RSM for ten years with complete satisfaction. Geronimo

The standard Ruger rings are detachable. .............................................

Having used the Warnes and one other set....forget which as it was a while back, I've gone back to the Ruger rings. At worst, they can be removed with a quarter...and work great. Gary DRSS NRA Lifer SCI DSC

I have used the Warne detachable rings on my .416 RSM with a VX-III 1.5-5X scope with great success. The rings performed well on a pretty rough hunt in Tanzania in 2006. I have removed the scope a number of times and it seems to return to zero very well when re-attached. I had a local gunsmith mount the scope and rings for me to make sure they were set up "straight". Enjoy your RSM! NRA Life Member SCI Life Member DRSS

I wonder if the Ruger rings would return to zero (or close to zero). GarBy, what didn't you like about the Warnes? Jon

The Ruger rings will return to zero, if you shove forward on them and alternate from front to rear while tightening them. A shot not taken is always a miss

That's how it's done! Put the scope/rings on, barely snug the screws so it has minimal play but can still be moved when forced, push the rings as forward as the'll go, then finish tightening each screw a little at a time while keeping forward/downward pressure on the scope & rings until you're finished. I've had great repeatability in all my Ruger rifles and my .454 Ruger SRH when using this method. It's a very good system.

Jon: The "pins"...or whatever you call them that fit into the Ruger grooves were'nt exactly matched up...there was a touch of slop. And...like stated for the Ruger rings, you must alternately tighten them...not an issue, but the Rugers work fine....with no protruding levers, etc. I just didn't feel the benefit was there over thr factory rings. Plus, you can crank them pretty tight with a quarter. Gary DRSS NRA Lifer SCI DSC

Thank you gentleman. I am working on this project piecemeal as I can afford it. I am ordering my Leupold 1.5 x 5 soon and am replacing the pad with a limbsaver I believe. I love this rifle, the wood is great, it's accurate and it feeds everything well. Oh I also replaced the front bead with a NECG white one. Thanx again guys. Mike

I put warne QD rings on my Ruger 375 Alaskan...they work great. They return to zero after detachment. Good luck.

What ever happened to the chap on one of these threads who was supposed to make QD levers for Ruger rings?

If you mark the position of our Ruger rings with a dab of white paint or whatever, and return them to that same spot, they will usually return to zero very well..Our camp gun returns to exact POI every time..I took a little 3 corner file and marked the position. Be sure an test your particular rifle for this as rifles are like a woman, all of them are different!
