a friend, who's done several of these, offered to take the job ..
its on my "cigerette" gun ..
claw bases and double triggers
VERY light stock and barrel
23"in
14 twist
chambered and throated for the hornady 400gr at the groove, NOT the short that is spec .. going to be about 3.34 oal not the spec 3.19 ..

why? the mag will go that long, and it gives back alot of capacity

he's also doing custom dies for me ..

aiming for 2250 with 400gr hornady DGX

when it comes back, will get necg sights, matte blue, standard xbolts, wrist pin, and bedded ..

should be nice .. aiming to duplicate a plainish light, slick gun, if it was built in the 50s..

if anyone has a brno safety, i would trade a 3position for it.

anyone have a "shotgun" lever for the floor plate?

need either claw bases or something like the necg blanks

thanks
jeffe

What a great project! Very offbeat and very cool. A guy could get excited about this kind of thing. Cool

What action are you using for this rifle?

This is exactly what I want. Post pics for inspiration.

What action are you starting from?

thanks guys

the action is unmarked, but i suspect it is a 40-43 m98 .. its very smooth, very tight, and unbubba'ed .. it came with claw bases, no rings, though, so that's going to be a bit of a hassle to sort out .. but it can be done.

won the lotto? nah, but i did hit 5 bucks on a scratch off ticket, that i picked up for a lark ..

its going to be plain-in-finish, though i am aiming for exceptional in function. a very teutonic approach on this one .. like i said, i'd like it to be "period" correct .. and pretty light weight ..

with my 7.62x25 destroyer in the stocking stage, which is a "rabbit rifle" or "park gun" .. small caliber repeater, as opposed to a rook rifle, which are usually singles, i am trying to keep putting together some of my vision of classic, though off beat, rifles.

just having fun, guys .. though i think the 3.34 oal will make a huge difference in performance.

for anyone looking for a 10.75x68 Tip Burns at www.canyonsportingarms.com has one he was very reasonable on. It is built on a 98, has a rigby style bottom metal on it, rust blued, and has a pretty good stick of walnut on it. I think he was around 3,200 to 3,500 cant remember.

Sorry for the hi-jack-- I just saw the caliber and remembered the rifle.

If you need any help, Mike should be able since he has it now and made some alterations (improved crossbolts), also done alot of load development, may have taken it to Africa too.

I shot 3 buffalos with this cartridge ! Two with old RWS ammunition 22,5 g FMJ thin jacketed bullet and one with a reload 347grs FMJ bullet from Woodleigh . This cartridge is marginal for big game and inadequate for a reload with a 400grs bullet ! If you have a original 10,75x68, and not a 404 barrel rechambering of 10,75x68, it is impossible to get right bullets of 400grs !

Not impossible, merely requires planning. Mine is being throated and feeding for the Hornady dgx, at the crimp. 2150 with 400 gr is easy at STD length, and is a factory load. 2250, which matches original 404 loads, at the longer length, should be no trouble.

Hey Jeff if the 400PDK can get a .411 400gr Hornady moving over 2300 with 86grs of gross capacity loaded to 3.34" or less you should have no trouble doing it with 9grs more capacity. BOOM

Looking forward to seeing and hearing the results.

As usual just my $.02

My Hofman mauser shoots the GS customs at about 2340. Put about 150 rounds down line and it is very accurate. Light, easy to handle.. A truely beautiful rifle.
