I did a search and only found one reference to it. Does anyone know anything about it? My son is building one up.

The 505 Burns was designed by Dane Burns. It is the 450 Dakota case necked up to take 505 bullets. Has the same level of power as the 510 Wells or 500 A Square. Would post a reamer print, but can't seem to get it to work.

Yep, the kid is using .450 Dakota for brass.

which is more or less a 450 rigby
knocked out to .505 gives the fella .005 more headspace than the 500KE...
and an odd bullet to buy for.

when cast performance can get to 95% of the jacketed stuff, bullets are about $125 and two hours away. Would you be concerned taking a half and half 750gr cast bullet 550 Magnum loaded to 2200fps or a bit better to Africa and looking across those express sights at anything? Not this guy, I would relish the thought to bust a buff or ele with that H/H bullet.

PS: a half and half bullet is a two cavity mould that has, say, a 550 caliber 750gr bullet cavity on one side and just the 250gr or so nose cavity in the other. Looks like the front 1/3 or the fl bullet. You cast them in pure lead. You have loaded the other lead pot you own with H-A-R-D linotype alloy. As you cast noses and drop them on a towel, I am heating up the fl cavity mould, and putting soft noses in the cavity one at a time and pouring the hard alloy on top. Dead soft nose for expansion, hard body for penetration. Need an fmj? Just pour the entire bullet out of hard alloy. I am shooting 220gr bullets over 2400fps in a 300WM. Under an inch at 100yds and NO! leading. One patch of Kroil and the barrel is clean. Are the wheels turning yet?

Obviously I am late to this party Mike built the rifles and sweet they are.

The idea was to get Gibbs or Jeffery performance for big bears in a lwt gun, non magnum lenght action gun (although we ended up using 602s) and most importantly, an efficient case. At the time the Woodliegh .525s seemed a better answer to me than the .500 Jeffery .535s to gain headspace on the shoulder. Yes, .005" more. 10+ years ago bullets and brass weren't that easy to come by. Rigby brass and the .505 Gibbs seemed they might stick around.
