Does anyone happen to have the specs on the 458 Vincent using the 404 Jefferys case.. I need both the long and short version specs. The loading data and a photos of the cases are on the reloading pages but no specs on the case.

no .. but the 458 AccRel, with hornady dies and headstamped bbrass, is exactly in the middle of the long and short.. and if you need more than 2400 with a 458, it needs to be crew served

Hi Ray,
Glad you are still kicking. beer
I have one of Roy Vincent's fired cases for the 450 Vincent Long.
You need to go to the source for the specs. Saeed will not even tell us the shoulder angle of his .375/404 Jeffery. Wink

Roy is gunsmithing in Midland, Texas now, retired from PH-ing after an illustrious career.
I can give you an email, telephone number, and mailing address if you want it.
Send me a PM here if you do.
Roy will build one for you.
Rene and Roy are home on the range, neighbors to Bush 43.

Agree with Jeffe. I gave the 450 Vincent long and short a serious thought some time ago but choosed the 458 AccRel. Which is a much better choice.. headstamped brass, dies easy to get etc

It does appear to me the 458 AR is the better choice and I have recommended it to my client and he is receptive..

I am also curious about necking up the 416 Ruger to 4548 caliber. Has anyone done any work on that one..I would like to know what kind of velocity it would get. I have done the 416 and 404 on that case with excellent results with a 400 gr. bullet at 2400 FPS and at low pressure.

Well my old friend Roy now lives near my birthplace. He is living in Midland, Texas and enjoying gunsmithing in his simi retirement..Hid phone number is 432-563-0938 and his email is still Kabakwe@mweb.co.za.

Myself and my client decided to go with the 458 Vincent long and am sending him a mod 70 to do the metal work on. I will do the stock in a nice piece of Turkish that the client is furnishing..

I agreed with my client that if one is going to shoot a 458 he may as well open the action as opposed to shortening the cartridge case..If I'm going to shoot a 458 and take the recoil they all give then I want the higher velocity of the long case..The 460 G&A, 458 Vincent, and a host of other 458s are all the same, with about 2400 FPS with a 500 gr. bullet, they just all have different names. A few will beat 2400 but thats just "proud flesh" as we say in the horse industry! Smiler

Sounds like Roy will keep busy. Smiler I have him booked for a 450 Vincent Long too.

Where are you going to get your dies? RCBS is mucho spendy, but CH4D is a looooong wait (6 to 8 months).

Excuse me but what is the .450-Vincent caliber please? Is there a difference between the .450 Vincent and the .458-Vincent?

Blue Dog, properly it is a "450 Vincent" not a "458 Vincent" whether Long or Short.

If you see or hear "458 Vincent" or ".458 Vincent" that is a typographical error or misspoken.

".450 Vincent" works too if you like to use the decimal:

.450 Vincent Long:
The fired case I have from Roy's rifle measures 2.740". I suspect max length of the Long is 2.750", trim to 2.740".
It has a caliber-length neck, and a shoulder angle that is gentle, slick feeding, but greater than the 8.5-degree angle of the original .404 Jeffery.

Will insert a picture of 4 fired cases here:

Left to right, above, fired case measurements by me:

.375/404 Jeffery-Saeed: 2.795" (max 2.8??"?)
.404 Jeffery: 2.850" (max 2.860")
.458 Vincent Long: 2.740" (max 2.750"?)
.458 B&M: 2.240" (max 2.295")

The ".450 Vincent Short" is made using the same reamer as for the Long. Just stop reaming a quarter inch short of the Long.

They are both .458/404 Jeffery wildcats.
Very similar.

Regarding brass length:

.450 Vincent Long: 2.750"
.450 Vincent Short: 2.500"

.460 G&A: 2.850"
.450 G&A: 2.500"

... IIRC, sumbuddy who know different, please correct. coffee

The Vincents might have the reamer and the official specs on the 450 Vincent,
and don't mind anyone contacting them about it.
I have never known Roy to do the email thing, but he may have started.

actually I believe my client chose the Vicent based on Roys reputation as a PH, but hey what better reason since all the 458 big boys are a series of of clones or near clones with different names..I suppose they all have their pros and cons, but the DG is not aware of this!Smiler

I guess I'm a more pratical sort, in that I would choose the 458 Lott and probably load it down to 2150 or perhaps 2200 FPS..Smiler

Roy is doing the metal and I'm doing the stock. I added Roys contact numbers in a previous email.
