boom stickAn interesting 577 compromise
If you could make a 3" belted 577 on the 600 OK case to shoehorn in a 3.6" action or a CZ by taking off the belt and making a new one on the casehead dimension on .660" for a 577 Rimless Nitro Express. Basicly a shorter 585 HE.

jro45That sounds like something that would brake your shoulder.
I own the CZ 458 Lott and it has 74.5 FT LBS
witch isn't bad recoil but I have shoulder problems.

boom stickNah... just shoot it at classic NE velocities.
11 Lb. gun
750 @ 2050 FPS
116 Ft Lbs of recoil @ 26 FPS recoil velocity

GrandpasezI talked to boomie. He mentioned getting a 3" case with good
taper and that maybe would fire in my longer chamber.
Doing up an OK is one way, which I just did(took couple hours
as the case wants to bend), by removing belt, putting
on new belt to match mine and sizing. And the other way is to cut
off my case, which I did one . Which is fine with me.
I'll send him both. I'll post pics of both and they are both
the same outside. And inside corners are about the same.
This 600 OK I redid was Jamison brass with a fair corner inside,
and I could not have done it with the first ones from Horneber.
Now if we all can get a run of long 585He cases done then those
wanting a 3" version will only have to trim cases , cases with
good taper, and right belt height. And I won't have to make any.
I want for the 585s to get a run going, as I will have all the case making
I want in my old age with my 700 and maybe 4bores.Ed

CCMDocBoom Stick,
Isn't this your 577BME?
I still like that as much as I did when you and Rich were on the verge of bringing it to bear.

boom stickHi CCMDoc
The BME can work and Rich made one and went bang but there is a hicup in the reamer dimensions. The BME will need another reamer. The BME is a minimal taper design due to the actual dimensions of a Gibs casehead is .636" ish. The thing going for the BME is being made on the Gibs brass
If we are working with an Overkill case and make a .660" belt and .635" casehead we have more taper. The compromise is being able to fit on a .7" bolt with a bit of a rebate similar to the RUM case but with a good amount of body taper. Thus the title of compromise.
The success of the OK makes it a good option of a case base to wildcat on.
So over the 585 AHR there will be less of a rebate on the rim and not mixing belts and shoulders (Just a personal preference) The shoulders on the AHR case are about 15 thou I think right? so a belt is a good means of headspace for the AHR case.

boom stickEd. In the pic can you show the 600 OK and full length 585 HE too please.

GrandpasezMy 585 is a .653" belt, a .634" base and
a .607" mouth. 3.25" long.
The 3" long version of mine has same diameters
The 3" long version from an OK case same diameters
The 3" long one from Gibbs brass is smaller and
not enough taper and material in the corners.
Side taper figured from the base dia to the mouth dia, not
from the belt diameter.
Redoing other cases, no matter which one, someone has
to make them like I did, and doing one from OK brass
takes too much time compared to doing them from brass
I made them from. And brass I made mine from cost
less than OKs. Mine has a little better corner radius.
Mine I can fire moderate loads in the NEF one setup
and take out cases with my fingers.Mine was made first
about 10 years ago and enough made now to get some guys started,
but I don't have time to make too many, no matter which brass
it is from. Which is why I'd like all of us to get together
and have run of mine made, then guys wanting 3" version
only have to trim them off. I'll soon have 5 guns in mine
and reamers to use for free and dies here and at CH ,
for those wanting mine in PH and other actions.
This 3" is just a newer better 3" version with good taper
and better strength. And reamer and dies will be easy to
get at same places I got mine, as they only have to
make minimal changes of instructions for machines, thus
seeing as how a 3" version needing dies and reamers,
that the dies and reamers will
have to be made anyway.
No matter what brass they are made
from, or if trimmed from a factory
run of the long ones. Lets get a run made.Ed
