I'm considering a circa 1975 ZKK 602 375H&H action, with the pop up peep sight,as a donor action for my 470 Capstick. Are there any problems or "funny business" known about these actions.I already have a PME 3 pos.lined up if everything checks out ok.I've done a search and can't really find anything against these units, but there must be something!!Thanks.

Mix,

I have a later model 602, without the pop up sight, in .458 WinMag.

My only real issue is the trigger. I have the standard trigger not the "set" variety and even though it is adjustible for pull weight, all the internal sear bits needed considerable smoothng up. That does improve the feel of this very peculiar trigger set up.

And I do notice that it does not feed the longest/heaviest bullets as well as the lighter ones, I suspect the ramp area will need smoothing as well.

It does shoot very well however.

we built mike's 470 mbogo on the same action ..can be 300 fps faster or MORE than a capstick, and very low pressure at 2300...

they are really crap, as a favour seeings as you are in Aust I would be willing to buy it at rock bottom price Smiler
Why 470, would have thought a 458lott would give a better bullet selection.

Mix3006,
Who is putting together your Capstick? If you haven't got a reamer dont buy one, I know where one is lurking.
Cheers...

jeffeosso;very impressive cartridge but ya gotta draw the line somewhere.Top wildcatting all the same.

416SW;seems like ZKK 602 and rock bottom price don't play well together down your neck of the border.458 Lott V's .470 Capstick? 500/2400,that just does it for me,that's all!!

Con;Bob DeVries is handelling this one,the action was sent to him to be checked over before I committed on it.He has a reamer already thanks all the same.

Mix,
there's some things with mbogo...at 2300, it's not pressure, as compared to the capstick, and if you want, it will go 2500 +

i think you could put more capsticks in a mag.. and should be able to see an honest 2300, with a 24" barrel, but that's TOP and at 60k+psi.

the price and recoil difference is tiny... what you are "in for" that is identifiable, is the rigby basic brass... vs the 375 basic brass

advantages of the mbogo
lower pressure
case taper (vs the capstick)
room to GROW and GO
and, other than brass (dies cost the same) there's NO difference in cost building or shooting one

mix3006,
No sweat, I imported the reamer that Bob uses. I need to get to Melbourne sometime soon to pick up my Capstick.

jeffe;the Mbogo has too many good qualities about it to ignore but I,m not sure a reamer is going to be very easy to get hold of.Also my barrel is a 19" twist,do you think this would be quick enough to stabelise the projectile at that sort of velocity? This being a long term project,I'm open minded about what this finishes up as.

mix3006,
Ordering reamers is dead easy and gunsmiths often go halves with you making it even cheaper. Just order direct from the States, dont deal with any Australian importers, they rip you off. The 1:19" barrel is designed to work for the 470Nitro, the extra velocity from the Capstick or Mbogo will certainly stabilise the 500gr projectile. If you haven't already purchased a barrel, check out PacNor in the States, if I had my chances again I would have ordered from them.
Cheers...

Con;I already received the barrel from Bob yesterday,Lothar Walther blank,so still needs profiling but I won't do that until I know exactly what I want and find out a bit of information first. Thanks for the tip on the reamers,Bob is supposed to e-mail me the address of some fella at Clymer.
