Can you shoot +P loads? There is some euro pressure warning on side of barrels. Seems like a good "intro" double. Thanks White Mountains Arizona

i have one, have had a couple, it says 28k (cup and PSI are the same at 28K)- its VERY light, not even I reamed one out to 45/120 .. too light it's UGLY ... man, is it.. its UGLY, the triggers are rough you can regulate it yourself .. not hard, but only in up/down plane -- r/l is down by loads here's a read on pressure levels http://www.chuckhawks.com/45-70Govt.htm no double rifle is meant for hot rodding/experimental loads... they are designed for one purpose... therefore, I propose that you find a moderate load, make it shoot great for that load, and enjoy opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? So it appears only the black powder load is acceptable? I know its light, ugly and cheap, with cheap being the operative word. Good gun to practice double triggers on i'd say? But if it could take +P it would be cool. And what about a 30-06 version? That's a high pressure with same basic gun White Mountains Arizona

Are you a project kind of guy? They generally have "good bones" for improving. SxS Refinish I've had my eye on one for a while with their novelty value. The shotguns were pretty popular for Cowboy Action Shooting at one time. A good CAS gunsmith could probably make a world of difference. Those more adventurous could wade in on their own. Trigger Job IIRC some guys one here were having great fun with the Hornady Lever-evolution loads on feral hogs. Use common sense, it'll never be a 450NE. If you look on the factory's Russian site, they were also built in 9.3x74r which we never got, grumble-grumble.

I shoot +P loads in my Marlin. I am not sure if they are too "hot" but assume so? 430 at 18-1900 I assume not "moderate"?

Yeah, Baikals go "bang" when the trigger's pulled, but most I've seen are really rough and their triggers suck. Typical Russky utiilatarian values where building firearms is the goal. All The Best ...

28K psi for a 45-70 is a very nice load level; far above BP pressures. That is about all you want to shoot in such a light rifle. Baikals are very strong actions though, albeit a bit rough. They are easily regulated; and can be adjusted in the vertical plane if you know how to solder. Well worth the money since the next double rifle costs ten times as much and won't shoot as well. Yes, I have them.

28 is modern, but nor MARLIN loads -- NEVER NEVER would I do that .. and yes, i know, they put 30-06 loads in them - but i understand bolt thrust i like mine.. its fun.. i had triggers done, and it shoots about 2-3" at 50.. kills hogs and rabbits and other things to eat hot loads in one? dude, its pretty slim and light ... my 45/120 loads, which are 80% of a 450 nitro, would be bone crushing ... and I have a 20" HR break open in 45/120 that i shoot those loads in opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? I have one or these that shoots very well at 50 yards with trap door loads at@ 1300 fps. I tried other hotter loads but they would not regulate. They are semi crude but as others have said they are an entry level double and for the money they are a bargain. Cal30 If it cant be Grown it has to be Mined! I have both the SxS 45/70 and the OU 30-06. The triggers on both are comically bad, heavy, long and rough. The 30-06 is pretty well regulated but the 45/70 needs work. I use trapdoor loads and 405 grain Laser cast Mark

I passed on it for now but if it lingers looks like it will be a fun trainer for a real double. Yeah just shoot pussycat loads will be fine White Mountains Arizona

I shoot 460gr hard cast out of my number 3 at 1400fps shoots through a lots of flesh. I don't see any need to hot rod the double I think on would be neat for bear in front of the hounds.
