Tanz, I believe the 'RN' Hydro is just the standard Hydro with a round synthetic cap affixed; the cap is supposed to aid in feeding and with the bullet's BC. Jim "Life's hard; it's harder if you're stupid" John Wayne

Exactly. Plus, the Federal 416Remmie ammo sells for only $121/20, so I'm wondering if the second generation hydro won't be much lower in a competitive price-range between $1-$2. It's hard to imagine a $6 loaded round without also getting the bullet down to under $2. +-+-+-+-+-+-+ "A well-rounded hunting battery might include: 500 AccRel Nyati, 416 Rigby or 416 Ruger, 375Ruger or 338WM, 308 or 270, 243, 223" -- Conserving creation, hunting the harvest.

Great info on this thread. thanks to all. I just got confirmation that my CEB order is now on its way! 1 x Cutting Edge 416 Caliber 325 grain DGBR-HP 50/box $74.88 1 x Cutting Edge 416 Caliber 350 grain DGBR 50/box $59.28 1 x Cutting Edge 9.3mm 255 grain DGBR-HP 50/box $74.45 1 x Cutting Edge 9.3mm 280 grain DGBR 50/box $60.30 1 x Cutting Edge 9.3mm Raptor Tip Long 25/box $12.70 Thanks to Michael, RIP, Tanzan, DK and others for their help in making my choice & pairing the solids with the HPs. I have been practicing now with 350 gr TSX & 400 gr banded solid RN. The big issue for me has been learning to shoot my first big bore. I have decided to keep the 350 gr velocity at around the 2650 to 2700 fps & the 400 grs at 2400 fps. "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."

A cape buff is not a tank, he is flesh and blood. I have only had one sorta failure on buffalo and that was a Woodleigh 400 gr. 450-400 that got sliced in half as it ran down his teeth, half went out the back of his neck and the other half down his throat and it tuned him upside down, the other barrel brained him, so I had no way of knowing exactly what happened. I believe it killed him but I know the second barrel did... I have use Woodleighs, Noslers, GS Customs, BarnesX, Swifts, North Forks, and some others including one with a Sierra 300 gr. and they all worked very well. Most all got me two holes on broadside shots...I beleive that too much velocity in our big bores is counter productive to penetration as the faster and harder a bullet expands the more resistence it meets, even with monolithics. I want an exit hole everytime if possible. One thing I'm pretty sure of is MJines is spot on, and I believe that most all of todays bullet makers have about reached the holy grail in bullet making, God Bless'um. I don't see it as a price thing anymore. I believe that Nosler was the first and still among the best, and that GS Customs led the way and carried the banner in monolithics, that Barnes, then North Fork followed. As these guys set the goals, and that the Trophy bonded bullet set another goal, the rest followed suit and today we have so many options that work its incredable and thats from an old curmudgeon who witnessed quite a few bullet failures back in the 1940s and 1950s, but even then, most bullet failures killed the animal, it was seldom that one was actually lost. Most animals lost were from bullet blow ups on the hide and shoulders with light fast and poorly constructed bullets or bullets not designed for big game, and even that has changed today with big game bullets for the hot 22s, and by golly they work too within reason....
