Last weekend I bought a CZ 550 chambered in .416 Rigby. I've spent quite a bit of time reading posts on this, and other, boards about these rifles. But I still have a couple questions. I hope you all will help.
First, the stock. Mine has a decent looking piece of walnut. I've read about these stocks cracking, but many of these posts are a year or two old. I had read somewhere, don't remember where now, that CZ had made some changes to the bedding to make the stocks hold up better. Is this true of the newer guns, or does it need to be bedded?
Second, the front sight. The bead is too small for me to pick up quickly. I had read that you can get larger ones at that place that used to be Cape Outfitters. But when I went to their website, none of the beads looked like they would fit. Does anyone know where to get a nice big ivory bead that would fit in the slot of one of these rifles?
Thanks,
Dave

Buy the necg dovetail cutter, take it over to your smith's, and replace the front sight. YES, you can force a necg insert into a cz front, without that, but it will always look it.

I heard that CZ is going to start putting in crossbolts. Either way, just get the stock bedded.

NECG shows genuine Ivory beads in .157 and .191" IIRC. They also have that nifty H&H day/night flip style front sight.

Not to highjack the thread but does anyone have any experience with the H&H style day/night sight? Is it pretty sturdy or just a gimmick?

In theory the height of the top of the flip-up white bead is the same as the height of the fixed bead, so that the sight picture should be the same.

On the Heym that I had I couldn't see the standard bead and left the pop-up/flip-up white bead up all the time. To prevent it from moving I superglued it in place.

I just had another one installed, as a result of some miscommunication on my part. I should have told them I wanted a permanent white bead but instwad got the flip-up for $295! Probably a few bucks more than a permanent one!
