Hey Jack Sorry can't help you with H335. I have used 81 grs of RL 15 with the 550 Woodleigh for 2175 fps. It's a good load with that bullet in my rifles. But never took it to the field, always used 500s! Michael http://www.b-mriflesandcartridges.com/default.html The New Word is "Non-Conventional", add "Conventional" to the Endangered Species List! I have used the 550 grainers from a Lott with IMR-4320 and H-4895. I like H-4895 better as it has less compaction. I got 2,150 fps with the H-4895. 465H&H

So, barrel length, and action has nothing to do with velocity, and reloading????

nothing to add, but stirring anyway? the ACTION, if suitable for the lott, has nothing to do with velocity.. barrel length has NOTHING to do with pressure of a reload/safe reloading.. obviously your reading skils aren't on full steam this morning. What did JEFFE say, not what did you read?
so, its painfully obvious you have nothing to add on the discussion, but you want to have a Well, GOOD MORNING :: And, of course, action suitable for a lott has nothing to do with velocity .. a ruger #1, a turnbolt don't have any effect on velocity .. and barrel length has nothing to do with peak pressure... so, you are just being a twit, without offering anything to the discussion have you ever even loaded a single lott round, with any bullet weight? opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Perhaps I over reacted -- GS makes his experience level clearer with every post .. and his agenda. He's taken special attention to try and rub his thumb in my, and Rip's, eye ... even if it means he looks like a baffoon when trying. tried of it .. dont' feel like putting up with someone purposely kicking sand at me, for no good reason. FWIW, in his book, Rifles for Africa, Gregor Woods advocates the use of the 550 grain bullet in his Lott at 2000fps for use on buffalo in herds to obviate concerns of full penetration and additional animal wounding. sorry but he did not give the load data. good luck

Action and velocity????? Nope to the best of my knowledge the type action has nothing to do with velocity that I know of! Barrel length in the 375 HH based cartridges, which includes the 458 Lott of course does effect velocity. I wacked several of my 458 Lotts to 22 inches and lost a little but not enough to worry with. But what does that have to do with the price of cotton anyway??? Jacks just looking for load data with a particular bullet and powder? I'm sorry. I'm sorry I stopped by to try and help folks that can't even post barrel length for loads. I don't need any info from you folks on loading a .458 Lott, and, I know what works when I load for one. Just for most, barrel length kind of helps... God Bless, and, let him reward you for your works...

Standard barrel length on a 458 Lott is normally 24 inches. My data WAS with 24 inches, with that particular rifle--which is now 22 inches. I have not bothered to shoot 458 Lott in some time now since mine are retired and I am shooting other things. I have about 1/2 dozen 458 Lotts. One should unless noted assume normal barrel lengths. Which I don't see Jack asking for velocity--just a load with H335--Which of course I am no help to him at all as I don't have any loads with H335. I too am sorry, but I see no help from GS offering any load data? Which was what was asked for to begin with? Maybe I got lost somewhere along the way! jsl3170 I have that book but it has been some time since I went through it and don't remember the details. However if Gregor was intending to slow the Woodleigh down for LESS penetration, he very well could be making a mistake. As most Woodleighs are "soft" premiums, with some expanding rather large if SLOWED down there is less frontal area, producing MORE penetration, not less! Raise the velocity by 150 fps and get more frontal area, more expansion---Less Penetration! Fact of life with most all expanding bullets! Of course if he was raising velocity from say 1800 fps, then he would be on the correct course! Below you will see some results of velocity, expansion, and penetration recently with a 600 OK. I use IMR4320 for all my loads in my 458 Lott. I use 85 grs for all my 500gr bullets. I use a little less for the 550gr bullet.
